Ok I wasnt sure if I should just start a new thread for this or not...but here is the old thread about my problem with my tranny....
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=638877
And on friday night I was driving and I was in 3rd gear...and all of a sudden it just started to grind like crazy....so I took it out of gear and tried to put it back in...and the same thing....so I put it into 4th and it was fine...so before the best conclusion was the input shaft bearing....is it possibly still that or do you guys think its just the tranny self destructing....I had to try to get it home that night and 1st, 2nd, and 4th are fine...I didnt try 5th....but I just went to move my car onto the street and the damn thing wouldnt start....so now I have no idea whats going on....I am going to rip the damn thing apart on Tuesday....I am just trying to figure out what to expect....

You busted 3rd gear I'm guessing. Tear it down and see what you can find.

3rd gear is busted ^... if 4th still worked fine, it most likely won't be a problem with the fork or slider assembly... it may be just the synchro, but it will most likely be the whole 3rd gear...

I wish I had the money to send it out to get it rebuilt by Shep...but that is probably not an option at this point...does anyone know how much a rebuild might cost??

Sometimes it's just cheaper to buy a completely different transmission (probably used) and throw that in for the time being, until you can get your other one built up. A regular Stage 1 rebuild by Shep is going to run you about $1030 shipped.

TRE rebuilds transmissions also... $650 for a swap... they charge you a $400 core plus $80 shipping... so upfront cost is
$650+400+80=1130, but depending on the condition of your core, you can get $400 of that back... costing you $650+80=$730...

Well I got started on it tonight and took a bunch of stuff out from under the hood to get it ready to pull out the tranny.....and I went ahead and drained the tranny fluid....and there werent any big chunks of gears or anything....so hopefully that is a good sign.....

oh yeah, experience is the best teacher...
I was scared to death to work on the 4g63 til my transmission broke... While I was taking it out, I noticed a lot of problems and bad gaskets on mine... I had to clean things and take it all apart anyhwayz, so I figured I'd paint stuff...
I stripped out almost all of the motor (aside from taking the heads off) and now I feel very comfortable with my motor and transmission... now it seems easy, more time consuming than anything...

Heck yeah....there is a ton of stuff under my hood that are disgusting that I have noticed since pulling the motor....I am going to replace as much of it as I can....I have a fat hook up on stainless steel lines....hard and braided lines...but here are the pictures of my jacked up 3rd gear.....I couldnt get a good shot of the other gear but this is bad enough...

Damn... glad that you found the problem though... get those metal chunks outta the transmission... might as well replace the synchros while you're in there... GL
