Dealer brake pads $158 for two???rwilber 11-05-2006, 09:53 AM versus autozone at $29... whats the cost benefit analysis??? MT-2500 11-05-2006, 11:04 AM versus autozone at $29... whats the cost benefit analysis??? Well do you want good brakes or el cheapo? :grinyes: :grinno:  Do you want the replacement brakes to last or do you want to keep on replacing them ever 10K. Do you want your truck to stop when you step on the brakes? If so them put some good pad/shoes/brakes on it? I have found the dealer OEM brakes to be one of the best and also close to the cost of any major brand of EM type good brakes pads/shoes. Find a good parts place or dealer and get a good quality replacement OEM type brake pad/shoe. That el cheapo stuff wiill bite you back many times. Read my moto. edbrycem 11-05-2006, 11:33 AM I would imagine a guy could buy lifetime pads from auto zone or something for well under 100.00. Just replaced rear pads for a 01 jeep, lifetime, 48.00.........me not being rich would go that route, thats just me though. MT-2500 11-05-2006, 11:45 AM versus autozone at $29... whats the cost benefit analysis??? What year make and model 2W or 4W have you got? edbrycem 11-05-2006, 12:06 PM I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 4wd w/360 MT-2500 11-05-2006, 12:30 PM I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 4wd w/360 Are you also rwilber? On a 98 the OEM type major brand front semi metalic pads are around 35-45$ I can not see why a dealer price would be 158$ as stated by rwilber unless the rotors came with them in a set. Usually dealer brakes are not much higer than primuim after market pads. edbrycem 11-05-2006, 01:17 PM no, i'm not rwilber. thats what i'm saying though, you could buy the pads for way less then the dealer, if thats what the dealer wants. If i had to pay (just a number) 50.00 for OEM or 50.00 for quality aftermarket pads, yes I would go with OEM, but 150.00 OEM vs. 50.00 for a quality pad............I'd buy the quality pad. But I can not figure out is why the dealer was 158$ for the pads. Dealer prices in my area are very close to the price preminum after market pads. on a lot of cars and van they sell me 2 front rotors and pads both for 118$ rwilber 11-05-2006, 04:28 PM I have a 98 diesel...you need the VIN to get the correct pads. I was running late and needed them right now so I bought them... afterwards i checked online and the top of the line ceramics cost $58 I suppose my right caliper is sticking , metal on metal. the driverside was 50%. The drums abt 50%, they got 180,000 on them. even with the sticky right it went 40k... checked out the caliper online and its abt $40 versus $300 from the dealer... they got a real racket going; maybe they don't like me becuz I never let them touch my truck edbrycem 11-05-2006, 06:34 PM With those prices I hope they dont wonder why you dont go there.LOL I do most all my work myself unless I need something done that i cant do; like an alignment. I'm not afraid to break my knuckles to save a couple hundred bucks, cuz god knows i'd do it for a couple hundred bucks. I have always found the dealer is not much higher on pads. Caliper may be higher or a new caliper at dealer. You might want to check the front brake hose to if it is draging on front.
