97 Jimmy Tranny SlipsFishman4 11-05-2006, 09:23 AM 97 Jimmy, 4.3, auto, loaded. Check engine light came on and truck started to run 'not quite right'. Next day start it up, CEL on again, and very little power in drive. Rpms are up, but not much go. Eventually the speed catches up with the RPMs. Anything past 1st gear seems to be OK. After a while of driving, it will slowly get better and after all the errands are done, the CEL is gone and the problem disappears - until the next day. Any suggestions? alesha183 11-05-2006, 12:31 PM Im not a car expert at all but I had a similar problem with my 97 blazer. I had the code checked when the CEL light came back on. Its a specfic code that I of course don't remember the exact number, but I took it everywhere to have it looked at and everyone told me I needed a new tranny. I found one guy so swore up and down that it didn't need a whole new tranny, it just needed this weird part. He said he does a ton of them on that model of car... I think blazer and jimmy are pretty similar. So I had him fix the part on the tranny and it cost me 500 bucks. That was 2 years ago. No problems with the tranny since. someguy000001 11-06-2006, 06:40 PM 97 Jimmy, 4.3, auto, loaded. Check engine light came on and truck started to run 'not quite right'. I had the same problem with my '97 Blazer, and a new ignition switch fixed it. I was getting two transmission codes, and if I cleared the codes the truck would drive fine like nothing happened. Until the service engine light came on again. Then it would slip like crazy and take forever to get up to speed. Just a thought. blazes9395 11-06-2006, 09:02 PM Get the truck scanned, and get the codes, they are most likely still there. See whats there. This doesn't sounds like a transmission problem because after the Service Engine light went away, so did the problem. Get the codes first and go from there. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
