Well it's been a few months since I've posted anything. I've spent some time thinking about my next project and browsing thru the finished projects and wips. I have been inspired by all the mods beeing done, so I have decided to try my own. I have never done any body mods so this is my first attempt. I am a firebrd/trans am nut so I am doing my third 68 firebird using a 78 trans am as a " donor car ". I hope you all like where I am going with this, I have been working on it for about two months now. As always, comments and critisism are welcome.

Interesting concept... are you going for a "road racer" look here, or just a "70s street car" look that the '78 has? Good start either way!

Very nice!

A little more extreme than my WIP firebird, but I like it!

Thanks for the replies. I'm not going for any specific look, I just look at the two cars and say, "that would look cool". I've seen some computer art of some concept ideas of a new trans am and firbird that combined two generations and that is where I got the original idea for something different. There is still more to do on the body and I haven't decided on what to do with the interior yet but it's coming together. More pics soon.

I've been watching your build. Can't wait to see the updated pics, the paint sounds like it's going to be awsome. I got my original idea of stripping and painting the front bumper from you, thanks.

I got a little more work done in the last few days. The motor is installed and wired, the exhaust is in. I just started on the interior and will post some pics soon. I have been spending some time working on paint ideas. I put up a pic of my favorite design. What do you guys think?

Well I just couldn't stop with the body mods. I had to something else that was just too cool. I decided to put some side vents on and flare the rear fenders a bit, the easy way. And one little mod to the hood that just couldn't be left undone, especially the direction this build is going in. I hope you like it.

hah, a shaker scoop of COURSE :D

This is looking really badass. Are you planning a Trans-Am style stance/wheels (Minilites, circle track style wheels) or big pro-touring deals? Personally I think a badass road racing/Trans-Am look would be better, but that's just me...

For now it will sit on jack stands, I haven't decided on the wheels yet. I like the trans am idea thou.:grinyes:

I see your putting lots of styling cues on it from the '70 firebird.

Looks good!

Well it's been some time since I posted an update, I've been busy. First I would like to say thanks for all the replies, this is my first major modification and it has been a learning experience. Getting the body parts off the 78 T/A to fit right has been a challenge. I have done a ton of sanding and shaping, then more putty and more sanding and more shaping until I finally got her in primer. I start to paint the body tonight, but still have some more sanding to do to the reap panel. Here she is in primer, hope you all like the progress.

Finally got some painting done. When I started this project the paint looked so far down the road that I thought I would never get there. Well I did and here it is! I still need to finish the rear panel and decide how to paint it. It will either be all black, black around the lights with a silver bottom or green around the lights, to bring out the stripe, with a silver bottom. I'm leaning towards the green and silver. Let me know what you think.

Man that is friggin cool.... Takes some serious patience to mask for THREE colours! I love how this is turning out. Personally I'd carry the green stripe and silver right around the back as well.

Thanks for the compliments everybody. The paint is not as difficult as you might think. The first color to go down was the green, then I cut a long straight strip of masking tape to mask an even stripe on both sides. Then a coat of silver went on the entire body. The only real masking was to mask the bottom half of the car to paint the black. The same method was used for my 64 GTO. The green and silver will carry around to the back and I still need to decide on the wheels.

Hey everyone, my custom 68 is just about done!!! :bigthumb: I just need to fix the exhaust, it's a little lower than I expected and touching the ground. I stole the wheels from my 69 camaro because I wasn't quite sure of what kind of wheels to use. I was thinking of a five spoke but these look better than I though and I may have to go buy new ones for the camaro. I will post a link to the completed projects gallery as soon as I post the pics. Thanks to everyone who sent feedback, I appreciate all your input and I hope you enjoyed the WIP as much as I enjoyed this build. Time to start thinking about the next project. :grinyes:
