Blue Bowtie 11-04-2006, 08:25 AM What year? silicon212 11-04-2006, 10:24 AM This has happened to my car every time the dimmer switch failed. The original one failed in 2004, its replacement Wells (POS) switch failed about 77 days after installation, the second Wells switch (to replace the first one) failed two weeks ago and was replaced with a Niehoff switch, which seems to be better quality, we shall see. Avoid the Wells switch if indeed this is the problem. mad57 11-04-2006, 08:02 PM hi where is this dimmer switch you are talking about? is it behind the actual head light switch or in the colum to turn on /off the high beams, sorry to sound like a putts !!!but no to good with electrical stuff thanks. PeteA216 11-07-2006, 05:52 PM The dimmer switch (depending on which year) is built right in with the headlight/running light switch. Also, don't completely rule out that it could be a relay that want bad. get a Hanes repair manual for your car, and it contains schematics for multiple years of cars. Follow the leads on the schematic from the switch all the way until the wires split ti go to the headlights, and check everything in the path including the switch. silicon212 11-07-2006, 06:56 PM The dimmer switch is located just behind the ignition switch on the top of the steering column, just behind the dashboard and on the left side. A steel rod links the switch with the control on the turn signal handle. What Pete above is referring to is the dimmer for the gauge lights, the dimmer switch to which I am referring is the high/low beam switch. kahjdh 11-07-2006, 08:23 PM I had the headlights go out on my tempo and after i replaced the dimmer switch and high beam switch it ended up just being the bulbs. So i would check those too. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
