F1 GTR at MPH 06countachal 11-02-2006, 09:20 PM This GTR is on display Currently at MPH 06 in London. http://img129.imagevenue.com/loc435/th_20108_IMG_6249_122_435lo.JPG (http://img129.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=20108_IMG_6249_122_435lo.JPG) Peloton25 11-02-2006, 09:32 PM "This GTR" is #06R, owned by David Clark. Cool to see it getting some exposure - shame about the barricades that will be in every shot. >8^) ER carbuilder2002 11-03-2006, 01:47 AM Interesting, it has non standard rear light units? Peloton25 11-03-2006, 02:47 AM Interesting, it has non standard rear light units? Those were actually the standard for the 1996 GTRs. Here's a shot of one of the Gulf cars wearing them: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/mclarengulfarriere0bi.jpg A couple of the '96 GTRs which have been converted for road use (#10R, #11R, #14/15R & #16R) have since swapped out those flat lights in favor of the (normal) road car units. The '96 GTRs that are still configured as racers on the other hand (#12R, #13R, #17R & #18R) still have this flat style of lamp fitted. GTR #06R was of course originally a 1995 GTR, but the factory had developed a package of upgrades for the few '95 GTRs that continued racing into the 1996 season and I would have to assume those lights were part of that. GTRs #03R & #08R also wear the flat lights today following a similar conversion at some point in their lives. Here's #06R staged for the 1995 LeMans start followed by a shot of it in the pits during the 1996 race showing the difference. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/c51-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/mclarens-harrodsx6a.jpg >8^) ER carbuilder2002 11-03-2006, 12:47 PM I never really noticed that all 96 cars wore these lights, I always thought they were replacements after a rear end shunt or some such incident. Many thanks for the history lesson. Peloton25 11-04-2006, 01:04 PM The '96 GTRs that are still configured as racers on the other hand (#12R, #13R, #17R & #18R) still have this flat style of lamp fitted. Correcting the statement I made earlier, it seems the new owner of GTR #13R had the standard lights fitted to the car now, possibly during a conversion for road use as it does wear a UK Reg plate now: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/img12pop.jpg Prior to leaving Australia, it still wore the original lights: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20C/DSCN0851.jpg >8^) ER PatrickT82 11-05-2006, 09:00 AM goddamn why did I went to MPH06 Birmingham and not London!!!:-( Jota 5084 11-07-2006, 08:07 AM I tought #13 went to Germany , so both ex-Maranello cars are in the UK now? Peloton25 11-07-2006, 10:28 AM I think it's kind of like #040 - registered in the UK, but lives in Germany most of the time. I could be wrong though. If you watch the Bruntingthorpe vid of #13R on Revlovers, you'll see a "M1 GTR" plate on it that appears to be from the UK. >8^) ER Le Man 11-07-2006, 10:54 AM hurstg01 11-07-2006, 11:03 AM ^^ good to see they have fixed the front after the tour in France PatrickT82 11-07-2006, 06:07 PM this 06R also goes sometimes to RMA trackdays.
