Updated wiring harnesses needed! My bulbs are burning out!VannyVolkswagen 11-02-2006, 06:16 PM Can anyone help me find updated wiring harnesses for headlights? The local dear here said that the originals cost $170 :banghead: and they don't know anthing about the updated ones. I have been back four times, getting new bulbs put into my car and I am driving around at night with my high beams, hoping not to get pulled over! Please message me if you can help me. From this site, I can receive direct emails to my email account. I hope someone can help! BTW - I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin... about an hour and a half west of Minneapolis. I was really getting sick of swapping out the bulbs every six months, i hope this works. :screwy: veedubmechanic 11-08-2006, 12:20 PM The problem is the harness inside he headlight. the one you unplug from the bulbs to take the bulb out. The connector tabs get weak and the connector wiggles on the bulb and melts the wire and burns out the bulbs. The updated harness is about 30.00 at the dealer. yogegoy 11-13-2006, 08:40 AM Prolly you leave human residue on the new bulb everytime you replace it. With any halogen bulb being replaced making sure you don't leave any residue on the glass specially sweaty hands. It gets so hot when it fires up that you can cook anything with it. Residue sticks on the glass casing and causes a hotter spot on the glass causing the filament to burn out faster unless it breaks the glass casing first. After installing wipe with a clean terry cloth with denatured alcohol removing the residue from the casin. OR replace it with an HID retrofit so you'd have better lighting, cooler temp since it's only 35W and no fillament to burn out. I replaced my wife's NB with headlights from an Audi TT unit since it's almost the same size as the NB. chvckw 11-15-2006, 05:25 PM I will have to look into the wiring harness on the girlfriends, the new bulb just went out yesterday. Would you happen to have a part number on the new harness? The hid lights would be cool but not an option right now. I like the bug but would rather work on a GM car.:shakehead yogegoy 11-16-2006, 05:23 AM I just don't think anything wrong with the harness unless it's fried. Remember to wipe clean the glass casing with denatured alcohol before you hook up everthing and avoid touching it. veedubmechanic 11-17-2006, 01:59 PM there is an updated harness for 98,99,00 beetles. The connector comes loose and creates too much amperage draw and the harness melts (turns black). The new harness uses better wires that are thicker. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
