okay so i picked up a 94 regal custom 3.8 v6.
runs pretty good for over 300000 kms

coolant question, does the coolant overflow tank have to be airtight pressurized?? my overflow tank has a hole on the top some previous owner cut out...and im having to top off the rad and overflow almost after every trip, i need the coolant to stay for winter its kold and takes longer to heat up with low coolant, and yah its low coolant light comes on and then would go off, drained rad refilled put stop leak, and no leaks underneath that i can see, only thing is the overflow tank has a hole in it on top (and no its not the refill hole cover) any suggestions or explanations would be kool, thnx.

if u need more information just ask in ur replys and ill give u more info will be keeping an eye on the forum, thnx.

so i went out and purchased the felpro gasket set but didnt get a chance to install it so i decided to double check to make sure im not doing any work not required, i noticed leak from water pump, so luckily local parts store had a water pump in stock, 80 dollars later, im installing new water pump, notice coolant all over belts and crack pulley, wiped off pulley and belts, and installed water pump. So far after a weekend of use, the low coolant light is still off, and heats normal car warms up, im happy i got my car running again.

thanks to this forum and the people in it, ill be back im sure.

Howdy, I seen your post and i'm having a similAR problem but the coolant tank is not pressurized. Mine appears to have a cut on the top too--seems it needs a vent for the coolant to flow freely into the rad when needed. Check to see if you see any coolant leaking around the intake manifold. Thats where i discovered my leak and also used a stop leak sealer that seems to of worked.. Other than that you may have an small internal leak that would seep into the combustion chamber and burn your coolant.
