Note the turn signals mounted in the front. There weren't too many F1s built...so there weren't too many differences between "early" and "late" models. Porsche 08-29-2001, 11:31 AM I think you're right Hudson, ther were only 64 Road Version built and any other variants would be race models that are fairly different from the Street Version. They started making them in 1993 and production ceased in 1998. punk_911 08-30-2001, 11:42 PM I think the original F1 could have been the one on the cover of the F1 book ! I much prefer the higher mirror looks. the turning light on the mirror is such good design ! Jay! 08-30-2001, 11:45 PM It may have also changed from the "prototype" to the production set. But with such a small run, the prototype may get counted as a production car... Not sure... Or, perhaps they could do either at the owner's preference. It was tailored to the driver, after all. hermunn123 08-30-2001, 11:57 PM i have that book:):) it's awesome! i can do some more research a little later, but its kinda late so i wont do it now. the car on the cover is the "clinic model." i'll look up some more about the clinic model tomorrow, i'm getting tired. silvers2000 got it right about it being a prototype. McLaren made 5 prototypes, XP1, XP2, etc... i'm pretty sure that the clinic model is not considered one of those, but if it is it's probably XP5. the only difference between those cars are the bottom one is a production car while the top is a prototype. that was the very first car that they unveiled to the public. all of the production cars were fairly similar. i saw a pic in the book with a guy who just got one and the mirrors were up high. but i'll look it up some more later. hermunn123 09-02-2001, 01:08 PM i forgot about this. the clinic model was a full size clay model. thats what it says in that book shown above. it says it's the same except for the engine bay, but what i dont understand is it shows a picture of the clinic model filling up with gas at a gas station. i dont know if it actually ran or what. those high up mirrors didnt make it into production. punk_911 09-02-2001, 09:30 PM Hey the MAN with the book, >>> how's dah book, how much did it cost ?? lots of pic??? , can u scan some and send it to me, or at least post it some where so I can see it :) Been looking around but all the sites have the same pics ( not many are in good quality anyway ) I love the the one on the cover, much more stylist, if you could scan those would be very nice ! Thank you first :) ! Oh by the way, I got a few of those car pics, put on the winamp skins, if any of you want the skin of : McLaren F1 Porsche Carrera GT ( the concept one )// this one real nice Porsche 911 GT2 Lamborghini Roadster Dodge Viper concept feel free to drop me a line at punk_911@hotmail.com By the way >> the Saleen S7 >> looks very similar to the McLaren F1 I kinda feel cheated :) later ! hermunn123 09-03-2001, 02:52 PM i got the book as a christmas present. it was about 50 bucks. i dont have a scanner so i cant send you some pics. it does have good pics in it though. punk_911 09-04-2001, 08:39 PM I thought it would be around 1000 pound for the book ??? hermunn123 09-04-2001, 08:42 PM that's 50 US dollars. i have no idea how many pounds that be.... Jay! 09-04-2001, 08:45 PM US$1 = 0.69 £ $50 = 34.5 £ Does the "£" go before or after the number? punk_911 09-04-2001, 08:58 PM The thing goes after , I can't see the pound thing on the key board ! hermunn123 09-04-2001, 09:08 PM it's probably one of those things where you hold down "alt" and press numbers on the keypad. ± ¿ etc.... punk_911 09-04-2001, 09:13 PM With all his money > did Bill Gate get a McLaren F1 or does he prefer a stationwagon ? :) The Ralph Lauren dude, I heard he's got 2 McLaren for that fact ! while there is only 8 in the U.S is this fact correct or outdated ? Porsche 09-05-2001, 05:51 PM Tis' true. BTW he the "Pound" symbol goes in front not after. supposedly Bill has an awesome Porsche. I aslo worked out the prices & math, he can buy 12,000 2001 Porsche 911's. hermunn123 09-05-2001, 08:28 PM Jay Leno has one too..... i hate him punk_911 09-06-2001, 09:25 PM Damn ! If had money like Gate does, I'll buy all the McLaren :) plus all the Lamborghini in diff models in diff colors and did I mention Porsche ??? Who need women when you in love with your car :) ! NSX 12-14-2001, 11:11 AM what type of engine does the McLaren f1 use? i thought it was Ameritech, but my friend said BMW and Benz engines hermunn123 12-14-2001, 04:56 PM Ameritech imports the F1 into the US. the F1 uses a 6.1 Liter V12 from BMW Motorsport. produces 627 hp the McLaren Formula One racecar is in a partnership with Mercedes-Benz. the F1 roadcar has nothing to do with Benz at all. NSX 12-21-2001, 11:00 AM oh..i see so ameritech just imports them? who makes the chassis? b/c i thought asiatech in f1 makes the chassis for the Sauber Petronas team hermunn123 12-21-2001, 05:49 PM McLaren makes the chassis. it is all carbon fiber. it starts out as a fabric and they shape it and bake it in a big oven type thing. it comes out hard and they put the peices together. Mclaren F1 01-03-2002, 09:08 PM I saw a BBC special on the McLaren F1, it shows how the car was built and how the Engine was lined with pure gold as a heat reflector Porsche 01-04-2002, 12:26 AM It was actually, technically Gold Foil, because it reflects heat well, but who's checking?
