Alright guys you may remember me from when I asked about new car recommendations before. Now I have narrowed down my choices to the new GTI, tc, or Tiburon. For looks I think the Tib is best, performance the GTI, and overall reliablitity I believe would be the tc. Any opinions would be appreciated.

take the one with the stock turbo.

the gti owns the other two in everyway, it looks better than the tibby, performs better thant the other 2 though it doesnt have the relability of a toyota, what does it matter, it's under warrenty

GTI hands down. i cant stand tibys and the tc is ok. but id definatly take the GTI.

Agreed. Can't say I'm a huge fan of any of them, but if you can afford it, definantly go for the stock-turbod GTI.

GTI regardless of year. I dislike the tiburon and the TC is only a couple notches above in my opinion.

a lot of people view the tC as a chick car, and the tiburon is aight, but I'd rather thave the GTI.

I'd go with the tC and get a TRD supercharger. You can still keep your warranty. I'd be concerned about the reliability of the VW. So what if it's under warranty? It's still inconvinient to stay in line at the dealership waiting to get your car fixed.

The new MazdaSpeed3 also just caught my attention, it seems like the best bang for the buck. Also why doesn't anyone like Tiburons?

BlackGT2000

I would rather alot of cars in that price range. The GTI is likely my favorite, the Si is pretty nice as well. There is also the Cobalt SS. I would like all three of them over the TC or Tiburon.

the tc is rather nice, but i personally dont like the tibs. they seem to handle boost well aready. the thing with the gti, is that its already turbo. if you really want more power, you could do the diode mod and push about 230whp without buyin anything. its just that the gti has more, how would u say this, 'potential' as you can upgrade it rather nicely and not have to drop 3k on a turbo kit for a car that isnt tubro/supercharged...

or grab the tc, and the trd supercharger. either way those are both nice choices. if you just learning to drive stick, id grab the tib, since 10 yr warrenty on transmission as well. u could basically break it and get a new one free.

the tranny shouldnt break from 1 new driver. if it does its a piece of crap and hyundai deserves to have one less buyer. i can see the clutch going sooner though.

if something does happen, its replaced. i have no idea if they cover the clutch. i know that napa will sell you a clutch for life time warrenty. if it dies on you, return it and they'll give you a new one.

TheStang00
11-03-2006, 06:41 PM
well clutches go, thats normal. if they sell a lifetime clutch they probably just bank on you not owning the car long enough to wear it out.

great engine, and supposed to have a good suspension set up as well. it would be nice to have an AWD version though.

too bad that's a concept.

the tC is a nice looking car, but it's slow and isn't a good tuning platform
I can't say anything about the GTI or Tiburon since I haven't ridden in or driven either car.

mazdaspeed 3 is nice though.

Too bad the thunder bunny sounds like a sex toy.

I like the mazdaspeed 3 alot, 0-60 high 5's, low 14 1/4 and nicer all around then an srt-4. I wish it was awd tho

I would go with the Mazda Speed3 and then my second pick would be the GTI. I wouldn't bother with the tC or the Tib.

Im with polygon on that, the mazdaspeed 3 is cheaper thana GTI and that is with the GT packaging not to mention you have a better warrenty than VW and more reliability in the long run. And I like the turbo set up in the speed 3, I'm thinking of finding one and bolting off that turbo to slap it on my jetta cause it's my upgraded turbo, the Ko4.

But both are fwd, both turbo stock, the speed with all options is the price of a base GTI, the speed has more power, though for an extra 500 you get more power out of the GTI but that is an extra 500 that you dont need to spend in the speed 3. I would definately take a speed 3. I'm actually thinking about trading in the jetta, after paying back a friend, and getting the speed 3 for my fiance.

yep, the mazdaspeed3 wasnt in the original question. but if that was an option id definatly take that too.

Yea, I think I probably get the Speed3. I also read an article in 'Motor Trend' I think it was, comparing that and the new WRX TR. The 3 won every event except the 1/4mile or the 0-60 i think. So yea I'm sticking with the Speed3 I think.

it lost in 1/4 and 0-60 cause the wrx has more launching capabilities, but the speed 3 beat it out on the course which is very impressive.

wise choice my friend. i really think it is. its not a very expensive car either which is nice. you can get all the options you want and probably still cost less than a WRX.

how do you know the speed 3 has better "reliability" than the VW, especially since the car just came out?

cause volkswagon isnt the best when it comes to reliability and most of the speed 3 has been out for about a year now.

get the tiburon.. be origional...

seriously the tiburon is solid and has a great warranty. it's got some zip and has a growing aftermarket if you want to make it custom.

VW is past it's prime imo
Mazda 's nice but bad warranty
and the tc is a great car, but the warranty is sub - par

I'd go for the Golf GTI. European refinement will always be better to deal with on an everyday basis.

the GTI doesnt come with alot of power stock. still more than the tc or the tib. but the GTI is soooo tunible. easy upgrade to the ecu and you have yourself a low 14 sec car! I would go with the GTI for sure.

yeah, it is very tunable, but so is every turbocharged car. and also why buy a car that can run you close to 28k with the same options of a car that will run you about 25k max and the 25k car will be faster.

So I ask again, why buy a more expensive car that is slower? the GTI will NOT run low 14's after spending an extra 500 to upgrade the ecu while the mazdaspeed 3 will just run low 14's out of the box and with slight gearing adjustments, through ecu tuning, and a flywheel (which is already available) im sure it will run mid 13's, crank up the boost to 20pounds and now your talking low 13's with no lag. And even after doing that to the Mazdaspeed 3 it would still be less than the GTI. Everything that can be done to improve on a GTI can be done to a mazdaspeed 3, FMIC, CAI, turbo back exhaust, fuel injectors, FPR, I could go on and on.

Also even if you swapped the GTI turbo from a Ko3s to a Ko4 (which is the same turbo as the speed3 ) by using the turbo kit, you only get 240hp and you barely break into the low 14's maybe even hit a 13.9 to make this shorter it would cost you too much to equal the power of a mazdaspeed 3 in a GTI.

yea the article said it has a torque management system that cuts torque in half in 1 & 2 gear so they have to do low rpm, like 1000, take offs.
Though I thank everyone for their input, I think I have made my decision for the Speed3.
