1990 camry dies twice in two days while im driving ittaylerb63 10-30-2006, 07:55 PM about a week ago i noticed that even though my emergency break would be off my brake light and charge battery light would light up. I thought is was nothing but my windows would go down very slowly and any time i press the break my radio would turn off and on when i let go of the break.....i can also hear a kind of poping noise (like when you turn a light swicth on quickly) coming from the center console or the emergency break..Then my car broke down...the next day i charged the battery drove it in the mornin and it was fine but i driving home and i notice that my lights are getting dim and then it dies again. I dont know if it is electrical wiring or the alternator which is causing this.PLEASE HELP! Brian R. 10-31-2006, 01:35 AM You have a bad alternator. Repair or replace it. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=166525 jg09 11-01-2006, 04:45 PM Take off the distributor cap, clean off the contacts, replace, drive. If that doesn't work, then go ahead and replace the alternator. Brian R. 11-01-2006, 05:39 PM Cleaning your distributor cap will not be productive. Replace the alternator. somick 11-01-2006, 06:53 PM Cleanning distributor cap will not hurt much, but the symptoms you described are the symptoms of a bad alternator. Sam jg09 11-02-2006, 10:38 AM Cleaning your distributor cap will not be productive. Replace the alternator. It can't hurt to do it anyways. Brian R. 11-02-2006, 11:08 AM Please don't waste his time. There is no chance it will solve his problem. Also, the only thing you can do is damage something by unnecessary maintenance. taylerb63 11-03-2006, 07:48 AM whats a good price range to get an alternator replaced and how long should it take for a "professional" to do? Brian R. 11-03-2006, 01:09 PM $100-150 and a 1/2 hour. They may get more than a 1/2 hour labor. I don't know what the book labor time is. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
