Hello agen, i won this today at a model competition! Its the Ferrari 250 gto which is made Gunze Sangyo, This to me looks quite rare not to sure, has any1 made this kit or have any past references about it, is it worth alot or not?? is it worth building or just keeping? i have never seen this kit or anythink made by this brand. Its a great kit it contains multiple metal pieces and contains some photoetched parts, excelent looking model!

Here are some pics,

yeh i looked around and i have found it for about 60-70 usd about 100 aus dollars in my case! it's stil quite rare tho but not as rare and worth as much as the 1 with the engine, mine is curbside :( but it is stil a really nice kit, you guys reckon i should keep it and maybe itl be worth something one day?

No offense but I find it hard to believe anyone in possession of this kit is willing to part with it easily let alone make it a competition prize. Sounds too good to be true. I get the impression you're maybe tryin to put the 'feelers' out to see what kind of hype can be generated and then go for the quick sell. Then again I'm kinda nuts:rofl: and stranger things have been known to happen. Whatever, I have two of these and have since given up trying to obtain the one with the engine. I suggest you hang on to this a little longer but good luck to you anyhow.

If you like the car and kit and are excited about building it, then keep it and build it. If this isn't really your style, than I'm sure someone here would be perfectly happy to take it off your hands- so trade it for something you do want to build (or sell it and buy something you want to build). But don't hang on to it hoping someday you'll make a killing selling it. Collecting models is not like collecting coins, stamps or comic books. Model kits have no recognised 'inherent' value- they are worth something ONLY when you have a buyer ready to give you money for them. They are a really poor way to invest or try to make money. I promise if you hold onto it to try to get it to appreciate, as soon as you try to sell it Gunze will reissue it and your LHS will have three of them.

So make the decision that will make you happy now. If you want to build it- great, build it. If you want to build something else then swap it for something you want- and maybe you can make someone else happy too.

It is not that rare, i have three of them... But there are also many who want one, so the price is relatively high.

In my opinion the easiest way to determine a value of the kit, as it is today, is to check from ebay completed listings. From there you can get high and low estimates for the kits price.

For your question i'd have to answer just like MPWR did (just a bit shorter answer): If you like it, build it. If you don't sell it.

It's a nice kit to build but as others have said if classic Ferraris don't turn your crank then sell it or swop for something else.

I can't really remember any big problems in the build except that the headlamp trims were a bit tricky to fit. I did this one a few years ago to give you an idea of how it looks built - wish I knew then what I know now.

To the best of my recollection the kit was offered in three versions, the one you have, a competition version (also curbside) and the one with the white metal engine. As mentioned it's not really super rare but still very desireable. The full engine version is much more valuable. It is still one of the best kits of the GTO available. The only real problem is the tires pretty much suck but can be easily corrected with aftermarket items.

Once again- OOP model kits have no inherent value. They are worth an amount of money only when you have a buyer eady to hand you cash for it. You may be able to find some poor sucker who will give you a huge pile of money for it, and you may not. It all depends on how good you are at finding the right sucker. Just because someone has seen this kit go for $XX on Ebay does not mean this kit is worth $XX, or that you will get $XX if you try to sell it. That buyer on Ebay may have been the last person looking for this kit willing to pay that much for it.

If you find the right person (and that right person may be on this forum), you may very well be able to trade it for something really nice. But if you're still wondering how much this kit is 'worth', are you sure you want to keep it and build it?

You got it for free- why bother worrying about a dollar amount? It's a really nice kit if you're into this kind of car. But there are alot of other really nice kits out there. Being a really nice kit, it's probably worth another really nice kit to trade for it. What do you want to build?

bst rply evar !!! :icon16:

I found mine for about $15 at a shop near Detroit, found the Protar version there for about $12 (and it's very nice, wheels are incredible for plastic), and an Italeri for $8. No one GTO is perfect, they've all got some issues to deal with. Haven't seen the MFH, but I'm not thrilled w/most of their hyper-detail kits that would take me months to finish, and I despise white metal in any kit. The world would be a better place if Tamiya had done a 250 GTO

I dunno Bob, with the way Hasegawa's pumping out beauties like their Miura, Jota, Stratos, and now the 240Z, maybe we should get them to tool up a 250GTO instead.

And, for god's sakes, SOMEONE please make a plastic kit of the 166MM Barchetta. I want to build it listening to a loop track of Rush!

Did Benson eat yout vowels buddy?

BTW I'm wondering the same as per your former reply.

BTW2 Protar stuff is fa from perfect, as all Provini's stuff: it show all love Provini's dispensed in his work but also his limits: parts fitting isn't easy, window surrounds is huge but overall details are fantastic.
