99 Escort ZX2 door locks

I have a 99 Escort ZX2 with the 2.0 L DOHC motor.

Just is the last couple of days, the electric door locks that work with the remote have started to act up. While driving the car will lock then unlock with no-one touching the remote. It seems to do this with both remotes so I believe the problem isn't with the remote.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Also does anyone know where the module that controls the locks and alarm is located?

I know of a Dodge Dakota that had this issue... no real relevance here though...

However, with it, the problem turned out to be the driver side door lock. It was checked and rechecked and they insisted nothing was wrong with it and could never figure out why the locks were going crazy. Finally, they just replaced the lock anyway and the problem disappeared.
