97 Toyota Back-up indicator problem

All instrument lights are normal, with head lights off, in all drive positions. When lights are turned, on the reverse gear position indicator lights brightly in all drive positions, the other drive position indicators still indicate correctly. The light problem indicator in lower left corner also lights. The back up lights do not come on in reverse. The bulbs are good. Any suggestions!

Inspect reverse light socket in the left tail light cluster for corrosion and clean. Change the bulb. Beyond that you'll have to troubleshoot between the sensing unit on the transmission through the light fail monitor in the trunk and out to the light socket and up to the dash.
