Mercedes Benz 600SELanopanjo 10-28-2006, 07:09 AM Hey all, today at a model expo i was at i picked this up, its the Mercedes Benz 600SEL which is somehow made by a company called (LEE) never heard of them, but suprisingly i think its just a renamed version of tamiya because box art is the same, quality etc is too. Dont ask me but i gut it for 20 aus dollars which is a good bargain i thought! Just had some spare time and got started on it this afternoon, just had a play around and painted most of the engine, the bay isn't finished yet but i hope to get it done soon, now any requests or ideas for the paint?? im thinking either a gunmetal silver or a gloss black?? what do you think? Also it comes with the standard Mercedes 600SEL Rims which dont look all the best so maybe i should pick something up? maybe some phat rims 20" what you all think? Ok here it is thnx for looking! night shots so not the best! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0186.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0187.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0188.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0189.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0190.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a358/anopanjo/Mercedes%20Benz%20600SEL/IMG_0191.jpg Thnx for looking! comments are welcome!(first time i have made sumthing other than a Jap car with a few exeptions) exhaust smoke 10-28-2006, 08:56 AM Good start. It looks like a pirate kit of the Tamiya moulds.:nono: BVC500 10-28-2006, 09:27 AM I'm currently rebuilding a 600SEL I built 14 years ago. It used to be white but I changed the color to Ice Blue (I mixed it from Cobra Colors). I replaced the euro-style rims with the S600 coupe rims, which are correct for USA models. I also have a pearl black with parchment 600SEL completed. AmazonSprite 10-28-2006, 06:49 PM I've just bought one of these too so will be following this build with much interest! The one I'm getting is branded as 'Hypa', but again it looks like it's just a Tamiya, to the extent that I think it has the Hypa stickers over the Tamiya logos  . The kit hasn't arrived yet so can't check for sure, but I got it very cheaply on ebay so I think it's worth the gamble! :grinyes: Samurai75007 10-28-2006, 07:19 PM nice start, keep up the good work. rod_k2 10-28-2006, 08:41 PM Cool model!! I agree with the phat 20"s!! Will look very dubbish. But....I never saw a 600SEL dubbed. So,i think it can maybe be the first one. How the original rims look with the overall body?? Good luck man! Samurai75007 10-28-2006, 09:42 PM anopanjo 10-29-2006, 02:10 AM yeh the original rims dont look all the best id have to say, the quality isnt all there so im out on the search! to me this kit must have been branded afew times as third party not to sure but for the price i gut it at im happy! about 12 us dollars! did some more work on it today not alot. Finished the engine and started work on the engine bay, its painted black and started some wiring! might start and do some more detail in the engine. And might do afew mist coats of black abit later. Il keep you updated. Thnx for looking and might have some pics tonight.... rod_k2 10-29-2006, 05:33 AM OOo. that one looks phat with those rims... Preety cool! "Kmkze waaants piiics of your mooohdel...." Should be great on black! Lownslow 10-29-2006, 09:35 AM found this http://www.jsautostudios.com/photo.php?id=443 i built one just like it a while back. theres plenty of these benzes on dubs just built by people who dont have cams or acces to the internet but i have seen them at shows sinoguy 09-21-2008, 09:44 AM i have one ,this is a very terrible kit tonioseven 09-21-2008, 10:43 AM They were reverse-engineered from the Tamiya kit. They require a lot of patience to complete with a decent appearance. xprojectz 10-03-2008, 08:53 PM yeah i buy it too it's lee, the pirate kit of Tamiya i just want to know what it's look like.. but the plastic quality not good.. i bought it for only US$7 in china good bargain rockinanko 10-03-2008, 11:07 PM damn, they should reverse engr some other potent kits instead of this! anyone knows who or where they are from? please contact me asap! i've got a whole pile of coachbuilt kits waiting to be 'reversed'!!! Renelsisc 10-03-2008, 11:25 PM I have the original Tamiya one, not the re-issue, and let me tell you, compared to the Lee/Hypa kits, the Tamiya one was one of the most detailed, and fun kits i have ever built. I actually have this car 1:1 so it was even that much more fun. Hope all the best for you! stainlesssteel 10-11-2008, 06:01 PM what's to reverse-engineer? Anyways i got this kit too....but absolutely is not an exact copy of tamiya, whole lots of sink marks and my body came warped :( although it does have "some" tamiya features at least! Anyways good luck ! kaho 10-12-2008, 04:00 AM I popped open a box of this somewhere and found out about the wheels and tires it includes...I was positive it wouldn't be even 1/10 as good as the tamiya one, it seems like they pulled wheels off the toy cars you see in dollar stores and put them into the box. The rest of the parts however do look very attractive (with consideration of the price). At least you get full engine, full interior, full underbody details. Most of the time will be spent on working on the body, like 2 months or so, but that's what i do for every model anyways. :p vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
