Tamiya 1/24 Ferrari F40maxwinamp 10-27-2006, 08:57 PM Time to get back to cars after a long break from car modelling :) This is quite an old kit and there is a fitting problem for the back cover as below.. about 2mm difference for the chasis. http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_01.jpg To rectify this, I saw off the bottom chasis and aligned with pin by drilling holes to the 'tubes' http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_02.JPG http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_03.JPG http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_04.JPG To speed things up.. I use super glue gel with accelerator as 'putty' to secure the joining area. (Will need to sand even later) http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_05.JPG Fit problem rectified. http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_06.JPG viperofoz 10-27-2006, 09:04 PM Thats funny, I built this kit years ago and dont remember such fit issues. Are you sure the upper part of the engine cover is in the right position?.... not warped?. Looking good though, keep it up Regards, Dan Samurai75007 10-27-2006, 09:31 PM I love F-40's, nice start. what color are you thinking of going with? maxwinamp 10-27-2006, 10:45 PM Thats funny, I built this kit years ago and dont remember such fit issues. Are you sure the upper part of the engine cover is in the right position?.... not warped?. Regards, Dan Even after I remove the 'projection' on both side, there is still a gap... strange.. TI love F-40's, nice start. what color are you thinking of going with? The normal Tamiya 'Italian Red' I need to get the hang of polishing red. Samurai75007 10-27-2006, 11:56 PM The normal Tamiya 'Italian Red', I need to get the hang of polishing red. Not bad, I would like to do an F-40 sometime though there are a few hard to find Ferrari's that I would like to make. Keep up the good work. NissanSkylineGTR98 10-28-2006, 10:42 AM Nice work so far, can't wait to see how it turns out. Always love to see a red F40. ales 10-28-2006, 11:30 AM This is a weird problem you've got there, I don't have that on my kits. I would be wary of the possibility you might run into further issues when you install the engine and subassemblies, as well as with the alignment of the rear suspension. Jaymes 10-30-2006, 08:42 PM nice start. check out MPWR's F40 thread...he cut off this tab that made the rear hatch fit perfectly iirc Martsmodels 10-31-2006, 07:33 AM Haven't tried this version although I have done the Italeri - the fit problems you mention are also brought to light in Alex Kustov's review at http://www.italianhorses.net/Gallery/Tamiya/TamF40/TamF40.htm Enzoenvy1 10-31-2006, 12:57 PM I agree with being careful for the rest of the build. I dry fitted mine after I saw this and it has no issues where yours does?!?!?! maxwinamp 12-06-2006, 10:35 AM The engine :) http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_07.JPG Added some wires to it based on reference pics.. http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_08.JPG http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_09.JPG I cut off the peg to realign the 2mm at the back http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_10.JPG Bloody sink holes... http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_11.JPG mhayward 12-06-2006, 11:07 AM Nice detail work on the engine. How does it all fit now after your modification to the rear chasis? M Gamerxz 12-06-2006, 11:10 AM Hahaha.. SRG S.C can put your model on my diorama? maxwinamp 12-08-2006, 12:09 PM After spray can TS- 8 and gloss coated, wet sand to remove some orange peel. http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_12.JPG Polish with Nuvus No.2 http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_13.JPG Ok.. now need to clean away the access rubbing compound with water and old toothbrush. http://www.outthere.info/F40/F40_prog_14.JPG maxwinamp 12-09-2006, 12:07 PM deltableh 12-09-2006, 02:24 PM Looking sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet....
