Hi all -- I have a '94 Civic LX. 1.5L manual. --- Yesterday my power steering system leaked out all of the fluid. I was unaware of this until the drive home from work when I noticed no power steering and the fluid that leaked onto my cat & exhaust was smoking nicely. I checked the pump, resovoir and lines but did not find the source of the leak. Judging by large amount of fluid all over the place behind the engine and on the fire wall, I fear it leaked out of the steering gear itself or somewhere on the rack. This is an old car with A LOT of miles and a lot of rust. I was hoping to get it through another winter....

A new rack for it will be $300 for parts alone and new lines are about $100 (special order from local parts shop).

My question is, can I just leave things as they are and go without the power steering? If so, am I going to cause any other problems, and should I remove the belt that drives the power steering pump?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpful.

thank you

shouldn't be a problem, just remove the belt.
