Killed by a early 80s van... EMBARASSINGCyprus106 09-09-2002, 03:52 PM Me and a few of my friends ride up to the local racing strip, where every rice boy in town that thinks he got half a shot at the diablos, ferraris and vipers go. We drop my 2K civic off and decide to take out his 93 integra. I'm sitting in the front seat and along somes this gigantic scrap metal rickety old 6-color tone van. The 64 year old guy inside starts revving the engine and I'm on the floor of that coup just rolling. This guy was honestly thinking about racing... I would have bet the farm that the engine would fall out of it if he'd gone over 20. So my friend revvs the engine thinkin' id be a hilarious story to tell later on. The light turns green and that 7-ton van kicked the flying snot out of his integra. To this day I have no idea how it happened. We've both been racers since the day we could drive and my friends damn good at it. He did everything right but that van hadta have had a cars length on him after 30 mph. We still give him shit about it, but after that we've seen the van around and it always wins. It's like a flaming wannabe astrovan but nobody ever sees the damn thing coming until it completely smokes them. Cyprus YellowMaranello 09-09-2002, 05:59 PM They did make an AWD, turbo minivan (dodge caravan?). And some of them AREN'T to be messed with. YellowMaranello 09-09-2002, 06:00 PM After all, look at the size of the intercooler this guy is putting into his. http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/minivan2/cool0001.jpg Taken from http://www.xmission.com/~dempsey/minivan2/cooler.htm CAptynCrunch 09-10-2002, 08:15 AM That plus the fact that if it's old enough it's probably rear-wheel-drive with an engine bay the size of a civic hatch that would easily accept some form of V8:D YogsVR4 09-10-2002, 10:56 AM I had a buddy who hopped up a VW bus. That sucker was fast as hell. Sometimes you just never know what you're lining up against. mellowboy 09-11-2002, 02:07 PM My friends mom have the same van and its turbo! I didn't know they come stock like that. Anyways its slow as hell! carrrnuttt 09-11-2002, 02:33 PM Originally posted by CAptynCrunch That plus the fact that if it's old enough it's probably rear-wheel-drive with an engine bay the size of a civic hatch that would easily accept some form of V8:D They don't need a V8. A V8 will actually throw the balance off on those vans. The earliest Dodge Caravans came with 2.5 liter turbo engines...the same kind that came in Turbo Starions. Those motors can be modified up to 500+HP without strengthening the internals. Also, those older vans are no heavier than the older heavy-bodied muscle-cars(about 3500lbs). There was a link posted a LONG time ago about this dad that drives a 12second minivan just like the one in the pic above. It was street-legal. The link included pictures of the van smoking a Modified Fox-body 'Stang, and a Camaro SS on the strip. The only indication he had anything was the monster-tach he had on his dash, which you probably can't see if you have a lowered car. He probably embarrases ricers and racers alike every day...with the kids waving bye from the back:D. Oh, out of the subject but, I did meet this guy with a bread-van running a modified Chevy 454 big-block. It ran 13's... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
