Hey hows it going guys?

Long time lurker, glad to be here[insert beer icon]

A family member is going to give me their del sol for cheap. around 500$. It was in an accident, then someont tried to steal it. I have to get down from norcal-socal to pick it up and bump start it to get it home. I saw it run in the summer. Been sitting since. Would this be a smart move? Im pretty sure I can flip it for 1200+ or keep it and fix it up to drive. Its a 93 del sol si. 64k miles. manual trans. Pretty sure its a clean tite. Would you do it? Any suggestions? Please dont chime in if you have no clue what your talking about. I dont and I know it. I need to know If I should buy this thing! Its nice on the inside!:iceslolan Thanks!

Well, it's not an Si, it's an S. 64K miles for a 93 is nothing. The damage isn't too bad. For $500 I'd take it.

would you buy it for 1200? Say it went up on craigslist?

If it was fixed, yeah. If you fixed all the bodywork and painted it you could probably get close to 2000.

From looking at it as is, I'd say its not worth much more than $700 if you find the right buyer. The damage from the accident is pretty significant (door + rear quarter panel). Some insurance companies might even consider it totalled based on potential value vs cost of repairs

^^Exactly what he said. You'd have to find someone who loves del Sols.. honestly, see what the lowest you can buy it for is, then report it to insurance as totalled, so they give you your money back, and part it... people pay good money for del Sol seats and other random goodies.. or total it and buy it back (if it will make you a profit) and then find a DAMN good body shop who would be willing to do the repairs.. but I'll warn you, it will NOT be cheap. I had to get a new quarter panel welded into my car when she was in the body shop getting the body kit put on and getting put back into show condition for the summer, and the paint and body kit fitment was $1700 (friend's shop)... the quarter panel tacked another $1500 onto that bill.
