The lights behind the panel that shows what gear you're in never work in my '88. I've tried replacing fuses, but they still don't work. How do I get the dash panel off to access the bulb?

The gear indicator light isn't in the main dash cluster. It's in it's own little opening in the dash, if I recall.

Not positive but you will probably be able to get to it with the instrument cluster removed. If that doesn't work remove the dash. It's held in by 4 bolts, two on each end and 2 nuts above the steering column. This is according to a Haynes manual for 83-91 specifically a drawing for 87 and 88s. Says to remove the steering wheel first but, I'm thinking if you can move the dash just enough to get at the light, you won't have to.

I'm betting 88s don't have airbags. If I'm wrong disconnect the battery before you tear into the dash.

I'll look for those tonight. I think airbags were an option in '88, but mine doesn't have them.
