Car Won't Start...SleeperCivic 09-08-2002, 01:44 AM I replaced the cap and rotor a couple of weeks ago and everything was running fine. I just pulled into a buddy's place tonight and the car died on me. Tried cranking and it turns over fine. Thought it might be the fuel, so I checked the lines. Good fuel flow. I checked the rotor and cap: no noticeable burns or looseness. Pulled a plug and looked for fire: NOTHING! The plugs were fouled with fuel as well and black. So I know it wasn't the plugs. Also, I bought new plugs and put one in. Didn't fire, either. I'll replace the cap and rotor again tomorrow, but just incase, what could the problem be if not the cap and rotor? I know there's not a coil unless it's built into the distributor. I hope that's not it..... b16a3sol 09-08-2002, 03:41 AM to check if the plug ws firing, did you just pull it out of motor and turn the engine over? if i recall correctly, you have to ground the plug to something, normally its the head, in order for the plug to fire. if you did ground it correctly, then i would check to see if the ignition system is within spec. check the ignition coil and make sure that it is producing enough charge to be able to jump the gap of the spark plug. it may be something as simple as you got too cold of a plug last time, or it could be a $200 ignition coil. good luck. emerge 09-09-2002, 10:36 PM yup. my civic did the exact same thing. i checked so many things and nothing worked. unfortunately i had to get new ignition coils. they arent 200$ tho. i only paid 220$ after everything. that includes parts, installation, filter and oil change.. it sucked but it could be worse. the fun part is gonna be gettin your car to a automotive shop. we towed mine with a truck ;x SleeperCivic 09-09-2002, 11:35 PM It's the ignitor. It can't be anything else. If you'll read my earlier posts, you'll see that I've already tried to replace the coil. Twice. Still didn't work. So, it's in the shop now. Had my insurance company tow it for me. Hell, I pay the people over $2k a year without any problems, they can tow me 12 miles for free! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
