Hello. I am new to this forum so please bare with me. I have a few problems.
1. There is a sputter noise that is made anytime you would normally hear the blow off valve (shifting or just decelerating).
2. Just recently there has been black smoke coming out of the exhaust. It did this before but it seems to be getting a little worse.
3. A couple of times the car has died just driving down the street normally. The car starts right back up though.
4. I havent heard this when I tried but my brother said that when he floors it and gets to a high rpm (high boost) he hears a loud beep noise
Please help with any answers you have to the above 4 questions.
Here are some specs:
The car has just a chrome intake and a GReddy Evo ll exhaust. There is a GReddy type-s B.O.V. It has both polished strut tower bars (front and rear). There is, short shifter, GReddy shift knob, HKS turbo timer. Every part except for the exhaust is less than a year old. All maintence has been done with oem equipment(spark plugs, and wires, all drive belts, timing chain, and water pump and has all the drive fluids changed). I dont know when the guy before me changed the belts, sparkplugs, etc....
Thanks,
John

Hmmmmm... do a boost leak check, if you find one, thats probably the black smoke. I dont know on the sputter, where is it coming from, for how long, and how loud? I dont know what could be going wrong to make a beep, a little more description would be good.
On the car dieing and starting back up.... when does it do that? After a good hard pull? When my rod bearing was on the way out, it would die after running it hard. This happened even before she started clacking, if yours starts clicking and losing power PULL THE SHIT OVER. I tried one pull after I noticed the clacking and man, $20 says my head has piston marks...

Is the BOV recirculated?

What are your plugs gapped at, and what plugs did you throw in the beast?

Are you saying the BOV is making a sputtering noise? My TXS did that when there were to many washers added. Is that bov adjustable? It does sound a lot like a boost leak to me. Check it!

items 1-3 are related and would appear to be a good o'l boost leak. I would bet somewhere along the lines that hit the bov...

The sputter comes on and only lasts about as long as the blow off valve would usually last and isnt too loud but noticeable.
When the car dies its usually when slowing down to make a turn or something....everything just locks up and shuts off...cant turn the steering wheel

I dont know what recirculated is... Its just the basic greddy blow off valve.

Can I just take it to the mitsu dealership to get the boost leak tested? If that is the problem how much does something like that cost? When I take it is there anything else I should ask them to check out? Thanks again to everyone.

You'll have to do the boost leak test, that I know of no shops except performance shops would even know what a boost leak is. Check www.vfaq.com (http://www.vfaq.com) for instructions on how to make a boost leak tester then give er a check. My guess is you have a pretty good one, especially if its enough to make your car die.

It does have a recirculation tube. Sometimes i take it off for a louder blow off noise. I put it back on and noticed no difference though. It is currently off.

Put the recirculation tube back on, and LEAVE IT ON. I'm willing to be that it will fix most of your problems.

I don't think that having the recirculation tube off would fix most of the problems, it may have something to do with them, but I doubt it will fix them. It's probably a combination of a boost leak and having that off, but more of a boost leak. But do like clipsekid said and put it on, then leave it on.

Ill put the recirculation tube back on. I think I tried that though and it still makes the sputtering sound during the blow off. So it sounds like everyone is telling me that it is a boost leak. I know i probably sound stupid but can anyone elaborate on how I would get that fixed and how much its going to cost. I guess I dont even know what a boost leak is. Ill do some research until someone posts a response. Thanks to all for the help so far!!!!

A boost leak is exactly what it says, it's a boost pressure leak under boost. Here's a great writeup on how to make your own tester and how to test yourself.
