Loss in power (95 GXE)JoeShmoe 10-17-2006, 07:04 PM I noticed my car doesn't accelerate as fast as it used to. I just got my two CV Joints replaced and all my gaskets too. My belts area also new, that was about two months ago and it was like new. Now I can feel my acceleration strong now (manual tranny), I can also here the muffler purring and sounds very weak, any suggestions on how to regain power again? wanaplay134 10-19-2006, 11:21 PM yea sounds like you blew a gasket somewhere and you have a big ass vaccum leak. most common is the intake manifold gasket JustSayGo 10-20-2006, 12:01 AM There are many possibilities that cause low power. A slight vacuum leak at cylinder #4 intake is common and will cause the engine to run rough at idle. One thing that affects acceleration is weak spark. Low battery voltage will cause weak spark. Having your charging system checked at AutoZone (or other places) doesn't cost anything. I noticed intermittent slow acceleration and feeling like I was pressing harder on the accelerator for the past month. My battery light never came on. My airbag light started flashing and engine miss-firing under load. When I checked the battery voltage it was 7.7 volts and a few minutes later the engine died. My alternator failed all three tests. So when does the Battery light come on besides when the ignition is first turned? With the alternator replaced I have power and acceleration that I have not felt for quite awhile. JoeShmoe 10-20-2006, 09:04 AM My alternator isfairly new, I got in Dec. But I just noticed that one of spark wires is underneath the little plastic holder that sits above the valve cover. The wire is wedged between that and the valve cover, Damn It. Thanks guys I will post the results in a bit. JustSayGo 10-22-2006, 02:08 AM My alternator isfairly new, I got in Dec. Seems like as I read the Altima forum that some Altima alternators have lasted less time than since yours was replaced. It doesn't cost you anything to eliminated low voltage as one possibility. Was your charging system tested after your alternator was replaced? How can you be sure? JoeShmoe 10-24-2006, 10:19 AM Something came up Friday so I didn't check the system. But I don't have time during the week. But I have capacitor for an amp. I can read the voltage pretty much okay, it reads 11Vwhen turned off and 13V when running. I will still go and get it checked out. A question now, do you think my clutch could be going out. I feel some hesitation when accelerating and by the sound of my car I believe it might be my clutch. How can be sure? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
