hey guys, i bought 97 eagle talon tsi awd last month. it's running pretty smooth until last week. the problem i have with it is when i switching gears my car just stutters. the stutter only last for half a second. i don't hav this problem with lower gears, and i can barely feel it when i switch to 4th gear. it feels more stutter when i switch 5th gear on highway. feels like my car running over a bump. anyone's help is appreciated.
this is my first post, i really like the stuff you guys posted!!!

its not a clunk at all. Its the engine shaking the car not anything in the drivetrain. (I know this because I was in the car)

Is it venting the BOV? Sounds like someone is dumping to atmosphere to me.

could be your spark plugs. bad motor mounts?

bad motor mounts?
That was my first thought, but that dosn't explain why it only happens in higher gears.

well it kinda does, more load on the motor... :2cents:

for some reason I always rule out the easyest thing to check last and after a day of scratching my head i finally check the easy thing to check and what do you know thats what the problem was the whole time.

hmm you could be onto something with the motor mounts the engine was rebuild recently. m aybe Ill try seeing if they are secure. Any idea on which is the best way to test/diagnosis and fix them.

The only way to test the old ones that I can think of would be to get new ones and see if theres a difference. Sounds like a good time for Prothanes to me.

Isn't there more load on the motor in lower gears?

my 91 did stuff like that in 4th and 5th gear. the bolt on the passenger side of the trans stripped out, so i was driving with the trans hanging there for like a year and a half, before i finally put a toe strap on it hahah. but when i was going fast in thrid and then shift to 4th, it would clunk, and 4th to 5 th it would clunk. if i was normal slow driving it wouldnt clunk at all. plus it vibrated the inside really bad all the time.
