They are a PITA to replace. but the symptoms would be whining (rrrrr noise) while driving. rear pinion bearing would whine under load, front pinion bearing would whine during a coast.

To replace the pinion bearings, you need to remove:
Driveshaft.
Driveshaft Yoke.
Wheels.
Brake Caliper and Rotor.
Axleshaft and hub.
Remove diff cover.
Remove Ring Gear/Differential case.
Remove pinion shaft.

Now you will need a bearing splitter/serparator to remove the rear bearing from the pinion shaft, the front bearing will slide out when you remove the pinion seal.

NOTE: It is necessary to use a press (hydrolic for ease) to put the rear bearing back on the pinion shaft and may be necessary for removal as well.

Thanx for the help! But i have few more questions about it cuz the mechanic at the shop said it could also be the carrier bearing or the axle bearing and if needed the axle will have to be replaced and he priced the pinion bearings and associated spacers n such at 150 and gear oil change at 75:grinno: . He also said that axles cost 500-600. Is just me or am i getting ripped off here BIG-TIME.

The rebuild kit price @ $150 is about right, the gear lube price of $75 is way too high you can get a bottle for around $8. The whole axle for around 500-600 could be right.

Is the noise coming from the Front End or Rear End?
