30,000 Mile Maintenance QuestionsFred Klintworth 10-13-2006, 09:27 PM I have some questions about items listed in my 2004 F150's "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" that hopefully someone can answer. 1) Inspect and lubricate 4x2 ball joints Question: I can't find any grease fittings; so, does that mean that I don't need to do this? 2) Inspect and lubricate steering linkage Question: Same as above, i.e., can't find any grease fittings. 3) Change automatic transmission/transaxle fluid on vechicles with AX45, 4F50N, 4R100, 4F27E. Question: I can't tell whether I have one of these transmissions or not. I figured out my transmission's code is a "B" by looking at label in door opening, but my booklet does not tell me what the "B" stands for. 4) Replace cabin filter, if equipped. Question: How can you tell whether the truck has a cabin filter? Thanks, ModMech 10-14-2006, 01:01 PM Fred, FoMoCo does not do a good job of updating their maintence schedules, as you found out. 1) Sealed 2) Sealed 3) F-150 = 4R70W and YES you should have it serviced ESPECIALLY if you tow (use ONLY "Mercon V" ATF). 4) Most do, but I'm not sure about the F-series. rivguy 10-15-2006, 08:17 PM don't worry about the cabin air unless you have had a dealer install a cabin air filter system - worked at a dealership for 8 years and havent seen one yet but they are availible - as for the suspention parts all you have to do is check for play. Fred Klintworth 10-16-2006, 12:51 AM ModMech and rivguy: Thank you for answering my questions.:) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
