Uuggg ! Transmission Smission !!!TxGrlLvsHerAvenger 10-13-2006, 06:16 PM HEY YA'LL ! I HAVE A 99' AVENGER, 2.5, V6. MY TRANSMISSION IS IS "FAIL SAFE". IT GETS STUCK ON THE FIRST GEAR, SENDS OUT THE CODES PO731, PO300, AND PO731. I HAVE HAD 4 DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS, THEY ALL SAY IT'S A MAJOR REPAIR THAT WILL RUN LIKE $2000.00 AND ABOUT 3-4 DAYS OF WORK IN ORDER TO REBUILD IT BECAUSE IT'S AN ELECTRICAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN READING THAT ON SOME OF THESE CARS, THE SENSORS WILL PUT IT IN "FAIL SAFE" WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM TO AVOID ANY FURTHER DAMAGE AND ALSO BECAUSE THEY COULD BE DIRTY. NOW, I'VE SEEN A LOT OF WORDS BEING THROWN AROUND LIKE THE SPEED SENSOR, TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, IVC'S, TORQUE CONVERTERS, AND SOLENOIDS. I'VE HEARD THIS REACTION CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY A DIRTY "SILENCER" ON THE MUFFLER. MY QUESTION IS THIS, IF ANYONE ELSE HERE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND IF SO, WHAT WAS THEIR DIAGNOSIS? HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN AND IS IT TRUE THAT NOT CHANGING YOUR TRANSMISSION OIL AND FILTER WILL CAUSE THIS??? HOW IMPORTANT IS A "TUNE UP" ON THE TRANSMISSION? WHAT IS THE DIFF. BETWEEN THAT AND A FULL 100% FLUSH? ANYONE KNOW? I'm not sure really why that would happen for the gear ratio being off unless it was messed with but with the gears it soundls like it'll have to be a bigger repair. I just had my whole tranny rebuilt and a clutch put in at AAMCO and it only cost 1,300 with parts which were most of it. They charge a flat rate for labor reguardless of parts so you can't really loose. Most "general repair garages" like pep boys or the local guys will charge a lot more since they are general guys not tranny experts. I'd try AAMCO or some place like that. Hope this helps. I TOOK IT TO THE AAMCO HERE AND THEY GAVE ME THE QUOTE OF 2G'S...BUT I SPOKE TO ANOTHER GUY, A TRANNY DUDE, AND HE'S THE ONE THAT TOLD ME ABOUT THE SELONOIDS AND THE SENSORS. THEY'RE GONNA TOW IT IN TOMORROW AND CHECK IT OUT SEE WHAT HAPPENS. SINCE I'M A GIRL....I JUST DON'T WANT TO BE TAKEN FOR A FOOL AND HAVE 4 DIFF GUYS TELL ME 4 DIFF THINGS..KNOW WHAT I MEAN? I GUY TOLD ME MY TORQ WAS SHOT (AFTER COMING ON TO ME REPEATEDLY **YUCK!**:nono: ), ANOTHER THAT IT WAS INTERNAL, ANOTHER I PAID $100 FOR A 100% FLUSH CAUSE HE TOLD ME THAT WAS ALL I NEEDED:screwy: . I GUESS I'LL FIND OUT TOMORROW WHAT I'LL BE TOLD. SO, U DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE THE SENSORS HUH?
