Hi All. This is my 1st posting for the site. I live in Sydney and recently bought a new Grand Cherokee 5.7L V8 Hemi 2006 which I have been enjoying up until now. It's only done 2,400 km and already I have problems. I'm driving along, obviously in auto, and the gears just jump from D to 3, and get stuck in 3, unable to go up or down a gear. When I stop, and take off again, because it's stuck in 3 it needs some revving before it starts moving, which I guess would put alot of pressure on engine. Does anyone know the problem, is it electrical or engine malfunction? would appreciated your knowledge. It's booked in for service next week, but I would like to know the problem for myself. It's quite upsetting having this happen to new car. Kind Regards Tosca

Welcome to AF on your first post.
Your transmission is going into limp/get home mode. It locks into 2 nd gear when there is a computer or sensor problem.

It will have to be checked out on a transmission capable scanner to find the problem.
It is under warranty so let them tell you what it is.
Just Get it in and have them fix it.
They should tell you what they find or fix.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi MT. Appreciate your knowledge. Dropped car off at Service Centre this morning and told them what you had said the problem is, which was very helpful as they now think I'm an expert, so I'm sure they'll get on top of it. It happened 2 days before the recent episode and they said it was a flat battery which is obviously wrong. I've got a 3,200km drive coming up at Xmas so definitely want to get it sorted. I'll keep you posted on the result, and thanks again MT. Tosca.
