jesus christ you waited 2 minutes, how fast of a response were you expecting at 4am?

there are too many variables to determine that, if its well taken care of, you should be able to get 200,000 miles without any major problems, if its driven by some 16 yr old that doesnt know shit about maintaing cars, and lets it run out of oil and all kinds of other shit, you may only get 20,000 miles out of it, WAY to many variables

Very true, and yes, patience is a virtue. jake has it right, way too many variables to give an accurate estimate. I've seen engines crap at 150,000, some run as long as 220,000+. It all comes down to preventive maintenance, not putting off any repairs that may need done, and unless the car is strictly for racing purposes, take it easy on the throttle. City or stop-n-go driving will put more wear on an engine than highway miles, so if possible, get it on the freeway every so often and run it pretty open so you can get some build-up burnt or run off. Basically if you keep up on minor maintenance, major repairs can be put off or prevented for quite some mileage. Just my :2cents:

If it was kept up well then you can expect to get 200K+ miles out of it like everyone else said.

Not like this has anything to do with a 95-97 cavy but my autos teacher in high school had his 97ish style Jetta up over 300,000...but that's a Jetta.

1 notorious problem is the head gasket, but with a car that old, i'd imagine that's already been taken care of, i dont know of any common problems major enough for someone to sell the car over...

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - If it hasn't already cracked....take the top vinyl piece of your dash off and loosen a couple of the screws near the center of your windshield and the other ones closest to your windshield. Ask around, I bet you atleast 5 outta 10 cavy owners have had cracks in the plastic strip closest to the windshield because screws are too tight.
