1997 c1500 headlight and door handle problemmbecke2 10-10-2006, 05:30 PM It seems pretty common that the door handles on chevy's break after some time. Anyway my driver door inside handle is broke and I have to let myself out from the outside handle. I was wondering if this can be fixed easily or should I just let a mechanic do it. Also, when I turn my headlights to the first click, they work fine, but when I turn them all the way on to the second click, the headlights go out. Its weird and I checked all fuses and switches and they look OK. Manual says its an electrical wiring problem and needs to be checked by professional. Wondering if I could fix it myself for free!! Seems like an easy solution, but maybe not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks alblogg 10-10-2006, 06:44 PM The inside door handle is not that bad just being easy with the plastic trim not to break it screws in the arm rest be easy with removing the door panel not to break the clips. When it comes to the door handle the factory one is riveted in you have to drill these out then hook up the new one reattach with new rivets or bolts and nuts with lock washers. BTW there is a thread in the How to section in the Blazer Forum on removing door panels with pictures that is great for this. texasboy05 10-11-2006, 10:12 PM all u gotta do for the door handle is pop off the main door panel and unscrew the under panel. the door handle has 1 bolt in it and it clips on the door everywhere else. its a tight squeeze but u just need to unhook the actuator rod and the lock rod and replace it. i did it not too long ago and the only problem is the lack of space skipr 10-11-2006, 11:08 PM What do you mean the lights go out after second click? the headlights should not even be on until the second click. the first click is running and tail lights. Do the high beams work? do the day time head lights work? alblogg 10-12-2006, 10:44 AM all u gotta do for the door handle is pop off the main door panel and unscrew the under panel. the door handle has 1 bolt in it and it clips on the door everywhere else. its a tight squeeze but u just need to unhook the actuator rod and the lock rod and replace it. i did it not too long ago and the only problem is the lack of space The last two I replaced for customers I had to drill out rivets on them on the inside handle, the outside handle is held by bolts. mbecke2 10-15-2006, 11:05 PM What do you mean the lights go out after second click? the headlights should not even be on until the second click. the first click is running and tail lights. Do the high beams work? do the day time head lights work? Yes the high beams work on the second click, but the headlights do not. The daytime headlights work also. I thought on the first click the headlights do come on, but I maybe wrong. Anyway, its weird cause everything else works, its obviously an electrical prob. 777stickman 10-16-2006, 11:38 AM From your description it's going to be the dimmer switch, DRL relay or the wiring between those two items. The headlamp switch in the middle or 1st click is supposed to turn on the parking lights only. Pull the DRL relay (located at the bottom center position of the Convenience Center). Turn the headlights on and put them in the low beam position. Check for 12 volts at the upper middle socket where the relay was. If no voltage it's the dimmer switch or wiring. If there's voltage it's probably the relay. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
