01 PA rear window defogger & power seatsfudge35 10-05-2006, 11:34 PM Can anyone give me any ideas about the rear window defogger? The light comes on on the switch, but does not work. Anyone know where the relay is for this? Found the maxi-fuse and it's good. Also, both front seats do not go up, down, or tilt. Can hear the motors turning but no movement. Anyone know where to get the motors seperately. Thanks in advance!:licka: wrightz28 10-06-2006, 11:04 AM i've never peared into the back window of a '01, but if possilbe, check the connections at the deforster to see if it's disconnectred (in trunk if not in the car ?). Also make sure the grid lines arent' cracked either. Although, I beleive the seats in these are controlled through the BCM (body control maodule) And I've heard goofey things like the seats and some other components (radio usually) having coniption fits when there's a problem with the BCM. LeapFrog777 10-07-2006, 11:44 AM Sorry about the seat problems. I have a 2000 P/A. Had the same problem with drivers seat with the seat motors working but seat would not go up or down. When I bought the P/A the dealer fixed seat on their dime. They put in a new seat rack. The seat now works like it should. If you have a dealer fix the seat it costs $$ ($1000 plus). If you are a do it your shelf person or have friends that could help you fix the seat it would be much cheaper. You can go to gmpartsdirect.com to check prices if you do it yourself. Price for a new rack is about $500.00 big ones. You could try a savage yard. Not sure if that is a good idea on a used seat rack. As far as fixing it your self I would think that you would just have to remove the moldings around seat. Unbolt the seat from the floor and unhook any plugs, etc. Remove rack and replace. I also had problem with passenger seat. It would not go up or down. No seat motor working, no nothing. So as I was either trying to move the seat up or down I pushed in on the switch hard at the same time and low and behold contact was made and now the up and down works just fine on passenger side. Hope some of this info works. Anyway this was just my 2 cents worth.:2cents: fudge35 10-08-2006, 02:22 PM Thanks for the info guys, I'll look at replacing the seat track as soon as the funds allow. This site is awesome! Jeff TopherS 10-10-2006, 01:37 AM Regarding the seats...my drivers seat is tilted all the way down at the front and won't move back up. You can hear the motor trying to work, but no movement. Dealer says I need to have the entire seat bottom replaced...that they are one unit...not separate components. My passenger seat works fine but the whole switch assembly (switch and plastic bezel) are broken from the seat frame. Again, they say I have to have a new seat bottom, that the switch bezel is directly connected to the frame. Now, I have an extended warranty that will cover the driver's seat, since it is faulty, but there's question about the passenger seat. I don't want to get stuck with a bill for a new seat bottom when the warranty company (GMPP) denies the coverage to replace an entire seat bottom for broken plastic parts. Does anyone know if this is true, that you have to replace the entire seat bottom to get a new power seat motor? NWPA 10-18-2006, 12:55 PM I also have a problem with the driver's power seat. The bottom cushion is stuck in the high position and won't tilt or move up or down. The screw shaft that drives the motion isnt' turning, but the motor seems to run well. So I believe it's the gear inside the motor housing that is the problem. The seat appears to use two motors to raise and lower the seat. Both aren't turning the screw shaft. The dealer quoted $1200+ to install new seat motor/rack, GM part #88993288. Dealer price $800+ for the part. GM direct was $580 plus shipping(usually very high). This job looks like a headache. Has anybody replaced the rack themselves? Is there a good way to adjust the seat down manually? NWPA 10-18-2006, 05:41 PM That GMDirect price is $480(not 580) plus shipping. The seat was taken out today. Both the "transmission" portion of the motors are bad. Probably a stripped gear allows the motor to spin with no action on the screw shaft drive. I could find any good source for the motors themselves. I did find a working junkyard rack for $175, but I'd like to not have to bother with this again for a long time. So, I'll likely buy the rack from GMDirect. Anybody else experience this problem? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
