Well, im really starting to get tired of the black smoke that is always coming out of the exhause. For example...whenever I warm up my car in the morning then come back outside about ten min. later there are always these black spots on the ground that come out of my exhaust. Also the one day when my friend was following me I stepped on it and he said this huge cloud of black smoke came out and sometimes I can actually see it in my rear view mirror. Please tell me what my problem is!!

well the black spots on the ground are from condesation... and are usual. and the black smoke is from running rich... are you venting your BOV? this could be the cause for running so rich...:2cents:

If it was oil it would have more of a blueish tint to it, it's most likely from running too rich or from some bad rings or valve seats or turbo seals or one of the above.

How can I figure out which one it is??

A leakdown test will tell you if you're rings or valve seals are shot, or a simple compression test will give you a little heads up as to what may be happening, but a leakdown test would still be better. The smoke is black and not more of a bluish right? Black means way rich on fuel=not so bad, blue means burning oil=bad.

It's all black and only comes out under full throttle.

it could be your spark plugs. maybe. hopefully.

I'll look in to it...should I get new wires too? I also recentley did my first oil change ever since I got the car and there was not a single metal shaving on the screw.

I always say if your gonig to do something, do it right. yeah you should get wires also and some NGK series 7 spark plugs if you are boosting more than stock.

Make sure that your not putting in too much oil because that too can damage piston rings and such and create monsterous clouds of smoke like I did in my Tercel.

I'm pretty shure I did it right because I measured out the number of quarts according to the owners manual and plus it was doing it before I changed my oil.

if you are running more then stock boost but less then 15 psi I would go with the one step colder.

I'm running stock boost but I may increase it some time so should I still get them. Would they have any negative effect?? Do they increase hp at all w/ the new wires?

pretty much any upgrade you do to an ignition will help with performance. you may notice a slight difference over stock but chances are that you will not. upgraded spark wires just deliver more energy to the spark plug for a better air/fuel burn. Im pretty sure the one step cold on stock boost wont make a difference but i may be wrong so dont quote me on that. when do you plan on raising the boost on your car?

not until next summer

Then just run with the stockers for now, no need to run a colder plug. Go with the 6ES.

One last question. Which wires should I get? Should I go bigger like a magnecor 8.5 or should I run something that's closer related to stock?

get the biggest you can get that is within your budget. bigger wires=more engery to the spark plus=a bigger and better spark=a better burn=better miles per gallon=saving money at the gas pump=more money for other parts....and most of all more horsepower!!! it really is a vitious circle.
airFS
10-18-2006, 06:42 PM
ok, I'll go with the magnecor's then
gthompson97
10-18-2006, 06:58 PM
The magnecores will really make no difference over your stockers if you're still running a stock car, they're overkill IMO. The only time that upgraded wires of that size are needed is when you need every last bit of spark to make all the horsepower that you can. Stick with some aftermarket stock sized ones to save a little $$.

So your saying I shouldnt get those? Could you please pick one out from the link that I gave? It also dosent really matter to me how much they are either.
