I had a honda dealership replace my timing belt and water pump on my 94 Civic EX. 13 months later I'm accelerating and the car falls on its face and dies. I have it towed to a different honda dealer and 600 dollars later they tell me the rubber seal around the timing belt cover caused the belt to jump {tagging the exhaust valves}. I get the car back to my place and decide to have the head sent out and do the work myself. I have put the rebuilt head {another 600 dollars} on correctly but I'm having trouble setting the timing. I follwed the haynes mannual and with the crank in correct position I am Half of one tooth off on the Cam mark. Is this allright? Or do I need to be dead on both for the cam and the crank? Even though it may look off, your #1 piston is at tdc. It took me 45 minutes to figure out why its off. so i took (#1) spark plug out and looked for bdc, and tdc.

Question: How much play should be in the timing belt???? 1/4 inch ??? or less.

timing belt should be snug but not too loose a little tighter then a quarter inch:2cents:
