Removing upper motor mount

This will be the first i have tried. I need to remove just the left motor mount on my 94 SE.
I need to pull the fan out and it "of course" doesn't quite fit between them both. Do I need to jack brace the engine to disconnect just the left mount?

If you're talking about the torque struts on the top of the motor, no. Your other mounts should hold the engine in place so you can just remove that one mount. You may have to gently rock the engine to wiggle the bolts out if they are slightly under tension.
