help lady with loud after market fuel pumpDennis Gardner 10-02-2006, 02:42 PM This is my husbands thread, my name is donita. I try my best to take care of my own car. I drive a 99 lumina ltz. I love my car, it is bright red and sits at 180,000 miles. Just recently my fuel pump went out. I had it replaced, but it is so loud especially when i push on the brake. Now I took it back and had the guy put in another one and it is doing the same thing. So I am a little frustrated. I had my son blow out the charcoal filter for the gas tank fumes in wich he found two filters, one smaller than the other. I thought that would do it. is it because i went cheap and didnt get a GM part? If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. Thank you so much! Donita richtazz 10-02-2006, 03:16 PM I would have the garage re-check their work and make sure all the wiring is good and grounds are in place. Do you get any interference through the radio? It getting louder when you have the brakes applied would only happen if it's backfeeding power somehow. maxwedge 10-02-2006, 04:14 PM To add to Rich's info, make sure they replaced the inline filter and the sock/tank filter, very important with a new pump. Assuming the noise you hear is the fuel pump growl or hum. Dennis Gardner 10-02-2006, 06:36 PM thank you, Ill check into that. Donita Dennis Gardner 10-02-2006, 06:40 PM Maxwedge, My son took my car after the other guy put the fuel pump in. He located two filters and blew them out. Now would those be the filters you are talking about? and should I have replaced them? Donita maxwedge 10-02-2006, 07:27 PM You cannot " blowout" the inline filter near the tank, must be replaced, also the sock in the tank is routinely replaced with a fuel pump especially at the listed miles, I don't know what filters he blewout but they can't be the two mentioned. Ask him what and where they were? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
