A few months ago I was driving to work and all of a sudden alot of smoke started to come out of the of the front of my jeep, driver side. The smoke lasted for 30 seconds or so, after it stopped, I could hear a loud cruncking noise. The noise is still there, but not as loud. But now the 4x4 is out. Only rear wheel drive now, But it seems like only the back passenger side tire spins. I took the cover off of the pumkin in the front to look at the gears and they look fine. And I don't see any damage anywhere under the Jeep.

You said that you had smoke on the DRIVER'S side, and now the reer DRIVER'S side wheel does not appear to be turning. I'm not sure what the problem may be, but I would recommend checking brakes and wheels on the driver's side. It could be a differential issue, but some more diagnostics would help confirm where to look.

Good luck, and let us know if you get more details.

Sounds like the caliper was sdticking or a colapsed brake hose. Don't knwo about the 4WD tho.
