03 GT engine sucked water now knocking

all right my g/f's brother drove his car threw high water and to no surprise it stalled out.. we changed the oil on the side of the road and filter it ran fine for about a minute then it started taping a loud taping its just sitting at there house right now i told him not to drive it the tap is on the right side of the engine closest to the firewall im just trying to figure out how water would of got into the engine the water didnt only went up to the bottom of the doors any help would be appreciated being hes at a lost and im a supercharged 3.8 oldsmobile driver i know nothing about mustangs :-/

tapping or knocking? Water could of seeped thru one of the lower seals (not likely). The noise has to be determined.

its a tapping noise it coming from the top of the engine on the right side closest to the firewall

sorry i dont know much about these engines im gona take the cover off tomorrow and try to pin point the tap

Water might have go into the cylinder, when it fired it might have broke a rod. Not likely, does it have power issues?

Did you check the air intake to see if it was wet? With all the moving parts, water can splash up pretty high in the engine compartment. Check the ignition system, you may have a cylinder that is not firing. Do you have a check engine light on?

sounds like a lifter might have collapsed. Pull valve cover and confirm.

there is no ses light im gona pull the cover tomorrow to check it how do i tell if there is a collapsed lifter?

and its more of a knock then a tap i guess i could say i will find out tomorrow

this is a modular engine, what pushrod?

i think you should visit www.corral.net or www.modulardepot.com techincal boards they will be able to offer more advice.

well, that shows my age and why I should keep up with technology. I did not even know what a modular engine was. Looked it up though and educated myself. Saw a nice cross-section of a cyl. head. Just amazing!!!:lol: If the noise is coming from the top as stated, you should be able to use a stethascope and hear the location. Hope you did'nt bend a valve.

This happned to my 94 GT
About 3 mins later it threw a rod right through the side of the block!!!:banghead:

Check all of the sparkplugs and coil packs and make sure all of them are firing. Also see what the plugs look like.
