I couldn't stand it anymore, lol. A race car needs to have some kind of something on it, aside from plain solid paint, lol.

From the side. If you pay attention, you can see that my number is 1966 now. If you remember, I messed up and had 1967 put on it the first time around, lol.

And close up of the quarter panel. That's where I get my stickers made and I suppose you coudl now say they sponsor me. And never mind that red "glare". That's from that reflective sticker on the trailer.

And I had to sneak one in of my new truck pulling the car, lol. If you look close you can see my chrome door handles, billet gas door, and one of my exhaust tips coming out the side behind the rear tire.

I think it turned out great. Got a lot of comments on it at their shop today. They had a local radio station their for some kind of promotion they were having and I actually was sort of interviewed about the car and Ameritint and the work they did, lol. Kinda neat. Almost felt like a pro-fes-ion-al :grinyes:.

Looks great by the way.

You're really going to call me a sissy in a week or two, maybe three, lol. Going to buy a better trailer for my "queen" :grinyes:! 20' car trailer (that one its on is not a car trailer, its a 16' utility trailer) with alluminum floors. If I had a bigger truck, I'd go all out for an enclosed trailer, but oh well. Someday.

And thanks.

And just to let everyone know....RAIN SUCKS :nono:.

Rain sucks when you are running a M/T DR. :icon16:

I do want a trailer to take the T/A to sea level. Just in case.
It is one thing to drive 20 miles to the track. Completely different to drive 900 miles and break something.

That's what sponsors do... they give you a deal on the parts & service and you go do your thing with their name on the car.

... where have you been?:screwy:

Yeah really. You need a trailer to even go to the local track IMO. Because you just never know when something is going to let go.

I really want an enclosed trailer. Something like a 24', but those things are a MAJOR wind drag and when you start putting cabinets and stuff in them, they end up being pretty heavy. And they are pure aggrevation to deal with untill you get them to the track, lol. They're big, you have to pick out places to stop for gas and to eat and you get the idea, lol. My truck could handle it, but a 3/4-ton is almost a must for one of those, especially in my part of the country.

That's why I'm just going to get a 20' open trailer. They have a lot of room and are much easier to pull and deal with then an enclosed trailer. The obvious negative with those are that your car stays in the weather. Good example of that would be like yesturday, when I had to drive back home 107 miles in the rain, lol. Race car got dirty. Oh well.

Thanks. And all of the vinyl you see on my car didn't cost me a penny.

:grinyes:

Truck gets about 14 mpg pulling the car. Car probably uses 2-3 gallons of 112 Sunoco Leaded Race fuel in about 10-12 1/8th mile passes, including burnouts and the trip back and forth to the pits, lol.

Nahh, but really, I love it. Its got all kinds of room and all kinds of power, lol. I'm not really a Ford guy or anything, but those old body style Crew Cabs are pretty nice.

Good luck though with finding you one.

Matt, your truck got the 5.3L?

chevytrucks92
10-01-2006, 09:22 PM
Yeap. 5.3 E85 capable. Iron block, allum. heads. 295 hp, 335 lbs-tq, according to GM.

I want to say the RPO is L59, but I could be way off. The vin code is "Z" though I think, lol.

i want one like yours....

little out of my price range. $12,000 is my max limit for buying a truck. i can't afford anymore than that.

it may be a couple of years before i buy anything. (cost of moving from UK to US limits spending.)

Hmm, well I know there's a few versions of it, I believe the one in my 2001 is a L33. I'm not sure exactly what it is...

Mine makes a whopping 285hp, 325ft-lbs according to GM. If I keep my foot out of it it'll average 16-17mpg city, 20-21mpg hwy.

2.2 Straight Six, probably want be able to find one like mine for $12,000. 04 is as old as you could find one becuase thats the first year of the GM crew cabs. Good luck with it though, and thanks!

Matty, GM upped the power on them in 04, and then again in 05 I think. Well, what it was is in 05 they released the Gen 4 versions. They are all allum and make 310 hp and 335 lbs-tq. That engine wasn't available in the crew cabs though, which suited me becuase I wanted an iron block version.

I could have got the LQ9 6.0 in my truck. Its the big daddy. 345 hp, 380 lbs-tq. Sometimes, I wished I would have, but I know that it probably would have drunk the gas and I think the 5.3s run great. Its not like they're race trucks or anything, but they will suprise ya. Mine gets the same mileage as yours. Now thats empty of course. Pulling the car it gets about 14. Sometimes a little over, sometimes a little less. Depends on how I drive it I guess. If I mash on it a little harder up and down the hills then it usually gets 13.5 or so.

Lol.

I guess the only engine swapping I'll be doing will be with the Nova. That'll happen this winter. Swap the 355 and Turbo 400 to a 383 and a Powerglide.

Shit! You guys are wanting me to spend over $14,000 to just get a 720 hp version of the 572 when I could spend half that much and build a 434 small block that would eat it! :grinyes:

Lol. In other words, it ain't going to happen! You can get way over 600 hp from a 434, for half the money (World Products 427 shortblock, $4800, Dart Pro 1 top end kit with CNC ported Pro 1 heads $2900, add a .600+ lift cam and I almost garuntee that'd be 650 hp) and about 400 pounds less weight AND see rpms a 572 can only dream about!!

That above combination will probably be my next engine build. Atleast the shortblock. I may use some of the heads I already have and that Tunnel Ram and 2 4's if I don't sell it, but the next time I build a new engine it's going to be one of those World Racing 42s7. That comes with an aftermarket block, Eagle 4340 forged crank and H-beam rods, Mahle pistons...all GREAT stuff for $4799.99, which is very good. That's hard to beat.

As for my 383, it's got close to 600 hp now according to the engine builder. He did garuntee that for $1900 or a different set of heads and a new intake that he builds, that'd I'd get over 600 hp. And that's with a 383!

572 crate is 720 hp yes, but change a few internals and stick a massive supercharger on top and it would be way more fun. I'd bet 1200 hp easily. might need some massive slicks tho

Chiquae07
10-04-2006, 10:51 PM
slicks? i hope you mean he needs a really really really sticky tire, or just melt if almost all the way in the burnout pit to get traction...

LOL. If I had an endless budget, then yeah, a blown 572 would be a blast (way more then 1200 hp, lol). But I dont have an endless budget!

I've got 32x14 slicks. About as big as I can go too. Might could go 33x14s, but I dont know. It'd be very close.

LQ9???

What a pile.

Yeah, lol. That engine was available in my truck, but I didnt go for it. I got the L59, 5.3L flex fuel engine, 295 hp @ 5200 rpms, 335 lbs-tq @ 4000 rpms. I wanted it instead of the L33 (high output 5.3L, 310 hp, 335 lbs-tq) because the L59 has an iron block with alluminum heads, where the L33 is all alluminum.

Chiquae07

the sticky part is a joke....sheesh, maybe i should say sarcasm or j/k after things i say...

put those slicks on fire and u'll get traction......

maybe not.......

I have the LQ9 block in the Trans Am.

I figured it was that one or the LQ4 version. What's the difference anyways? I know one made 345 hp and the other made 300 stock, but yours ain't stock, lol. So what is the difference in the blocks?

Mr. Luos
10-06-2006, 06:31 PM
I don't think there is a difference in the blocks...just the internals.

LQ9 have higher compression??

Mr. Luos
10-06-2006, 10:52 PM
It might.

I really am not versed on the differences between the LQ4 and LQ9.
Probably basicly the same as the difference from the LS1 to the LS6. Cam, heads, very minor changed in oiling, etc.

chevytrucks92
10-06-2006, 11:04 PM
Well, according to www.chevrolet.com (http://www.chevrolet.com), the LQ4 has 9.4:1 compression, and the LQ9 has 10.1:1 compression.

Had to look it up, lol, couldn't stand it anymore!
