Lancer Evo VIIIstreet_racer_00 09-02-2002, 02:56 AM Anyone know when this amazing machine is planning to hit US soil? I heard late this year. Anybody have any info? Yosh 09-02-2002, 05:17 PM No, the 7 ruined the legend. The 8 will hopefully have a meaner look Fliquer 09-02-2002, 05:22 PM The evo8 body looks just like the 7, except without the wing and with a split grill (kinda like the new galant). They wont bring in the 7 because they dont make Evo7s anymore. Bryan8412 09-02-2002, 06:18 PM Originally posted by Yosh No, the 7 ruined the legend. The 8 will hopefully have a meaner look trust me. compared to the 8 the 7 is beautiful. besides the 7 i didnt like was that bad looking and with a different lip it looked awesome. heres some pictures of the "evolution" 8: http://lancerevolutions.com/gallery/cat.asp?iCat=44 the yellow one is from an event and is the real deal, dunno what the black is. The new grill is ugly, and what happend to the rally spoiler!? Trust me, i would take a 7 over an 8 ANYDAY. It's a shame all the imports are going down the drain in design.... street_racer_00 09-02-2002, 06:32 PM Originally posted by Bryan8412 It's a shame all the imports are going down the drain in design.... What about the new 350Z, what do you think about that? Yosh 09-02-2002, 10:27 PM Dont worry about the 8's looks. Mitsubishi hasn't even officially came out with the design, its all speculation so far, and we can't say that it will or will not have this or that. It will probably have a wing... because every evolution has, and it just makes sense. And those pictures are all photoshopped if you look at them, and the one at the auto show doesnt really show off anything else except its front. It could be a just a concept model, or the base model of another car. If you look at the picture at the auto show, it looks nothing like the cedia model evolution. Until Mitsubishi finally releases specs and pictures, then ill say if its ugly or not. Its too early to judge, but you gotta have some faith in them (mitsubishi) Cbass 09-02-2002, 11:29 PM I don't know what they were thinking... I guess they saw the new WRX, and said "We can't compete with that! Ugly it up, boys!". [b]LanEvo 6  http://www.thone.demon.co.uk/evo6/My6-01.jpg http://www.thone.demon.co.uk/evo6/My6-02.jpg http://www.thone.demon.co.uk/evo6/My6-03.jpg LanEvo 7... http://cars.uhome.net/mitsubishi/e7/photo/e7-5.jpg http://www7.plala.or.jp/tok/silvia/image/gallary_wheel_viper-r/lanevo7.jpg http://www.gtoevolution.ch/Evo_evo_images/evo_7_m.jpg I like the new front end, but the sides and the rear... ugh. Flares like that belong on a Pontiac, not a LanEvo! :( what happen with the tail lights? They went from the sweet LanEvo Benz type cheese wedges to these new... I don't even know what to call them. It looks like an economy car with a cheap wing and airdam. street_racer_00 09-02-2002, 11:41 PM Dear God, the 6 made me cream my pants. As for the 7, come on, it's better looking than the turbo shoebox on wheels (a.k.a. WRX). I definitely wouldn't roll it out of my garage. Layla's Keeper 09-03-2002, 04:50 PM Gee, if those pics have anything to do with the Lancer EvoVIII, then I'm afraid that we of the octagon faithful (The MG badge is a maroon octagon with the letters "MG" in the center, in case you didn't know) are going to have to lay siege to Mitsubishi's styling center until they give us back our headlights! Seriously, those headlights are cribbed straight from the new ZR series. The rest..... ehhh. As long as they've made the car agile enough to run with the Xsaras and 206's in the WRC, I don't care. There had better be aerodynamic improvement somewhere in all that fuggliness. Fliquer 09-03-2002, 05:29 PM Layla's Keeper 09-03-2002, 05:48 PM Take a look at the black "Evo" from that Lancerrevolutions gallery that was posted by Bryan8412. Those sunken half-round bugeyes in body color surrounds are shared by the pair. And I don't particularly care for those headlights on the ZR's, either. I would've done something like the single recessed headlight per side on my B, though that would've been too retro. Maybe something that flares out at the trailing edge and tucks under the grill..... street_racer_00 09-03-2002, 05:58 PM While browsing the lancerevolutions.com gallery, I came to the conclusion that the VI was the best looking, in my opinion. What do you all think? TatII 09-03-2002, 07:17 PM good god!!!!! the design team at mitsubishi deserves to be shot!!! Cbass 09-04-2002, 07:40 AM Originally posted by street_racer_00 While browsing the lancerevolutions.com gallery, I came to the conclusion that the VI was the best looking, in my opinion. What do you all think? Do you like Civics? Just wondering... I kind of like the front end of the LanEvo 7, but the rest of it... it looks like a grocery getter! Damned economy car looks! TatII 09-04-2002, 11:16 AM but you still gotta love those flared fenders and their awesome rally inspired wings. TatII 09-04-2002, 11:17 AM but you still gotta love those flared fenders and their awesome rally inspired wings. and by the way. i think the 5 takes the cake in the looks department. now that must be the meanest lookin evo!! street_racer_00 09-04-2002, 07:06 PM Originally posted by Cbass Do you like Civics? Just wondering... Hell no I don't. Hey Tat II, did the random tech high-flow cat make a noticible difference in your car's performance? I was thinking about ordering one for my car..... Cbass 09-06-2002, 02:23 AM Just kidding Racer :D BTW, from what I know, the new Nissan cats have very good flow. street_racer_00 09-06-2002, 02:16 PM Originally posted by Cbass Just kidding Racer :D BTW, from what I know, the new Nissan cats have very good flow. Really? Wow that's good to know. Maybe I'll look into getting one from random tech. then. Do you know of any numbers you could throw at me? wishihadar34 09-06-2002, 10:59 PM they found perfection wit the evo VI. years of building up a rally dominating reputation, making the lancer name something to be admired then they release the american teenie bopper inspired OZ rally edition. love this country but just wish we had the japanese super cars. Layla's Keeper 09-07-2002, 12:13 PM They lost the rally dominating reputation with the VII as well. The car was too big to be agile in tight corners and they aren't getting as much suspension travel as they used to with the pick-up points of the new unibody. The unfortunate solution was to run longer struts, so the car has more body lean than most of the other cars on the WRC circuit this year. All in all, the redesign was a flop on track. The justification? A larger back seat. Makes me wonder what the designers were doing...:bonghitte wingsofwar 09-07-2002, 01:33 PM god whats up with the 4 door models!! common i wana see some Evos with a shorter body!! and the big ass fog lights..ohh man..those are soo sweet..when watching rally at night and those brights come on..i pee in my pants...i seriously dont like the evo 8...but the performance should compensate for the lack of style..i still think the evo 5 is the best.. street_racer_00 09-07-2002, 02:56 PM Originally posted by Octagon They lost the rally dominating reputation with the VII as well. They obviously redesigned it to appeal to the regular consumers in the compact hot rod market, not Tommi Makkinen. Lets face it, if the car doesn't sell, there won't be a WRC car to bitch about at all. Cbass 09-07-2002, 10:58 PM Originally posted by street_racer_00 You have to remember, as much as I hate to admit this, that racing isn't everything. Blasphemy! Be gone, heretic! :D Layla's Keeper 09-09-2002, 04:59 PM No, the base model Lancer is designed for transportation, the Evolution debuted as justification for Mitsubishi's involvment in the WRC. It's the production version of their race car. They created the whole damn TEAM around Makkinen. Remember the Tommi Makkinen Edition Evo VI's? It was in celebration of their victories with their race cars. Now the race car is crap because the base street car its platform is derived from has the most screwed up geometry on the circuit. Even the Skoda Octavia (which is little more than an Audi A4 in drag) is a better handling race car at the moment than the Evo. That's just flat out wrong. And guess what. Now that the race car isn't winning, the EVO is losing cred on the street. Thus, sales are hurting. Remember, win on Sunday, sell on Monday.:finger: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
