neon doesnt want to shift right away

my 95 neon will shift from 1st to 2nd good but takes a long time to shift from 2nd right when i start when cold

Check your fluid level and add only Mopar ATF+4 to it if needed. You may also want to look into adjusting your kickdown band.

figured out what was wrong, it was way over full of fluid:frown:
whoever had the car b4 me over filled it
coulda done some damage but i think i caught it soon enough

Too much fluid isn't a good thing. Did the fluid smell burnt any?

I have the same problem.. levels are ok,, type of fluid in trans is ??? Also when I step on the gas peddle it gets hard about 1/2 way down, if I really press hard like to pass it jumps out of drive.. I disconnected the kickdown cable at the throttle base and now the gas peddle works fine.. would this damage the transmission? still have the cold shifting problem.
