ok i havea mazda 626 which has a switch on the gear changer for the drive and overdrive switching. when you push the switch the od is off and a light comes on on the dash to let you know. well today this light started flashing. the car was fine until i got off the highway and into town. after stopping at stop signs and taking off again my car switched gears really hard. you could feel it. it wasnt terrible but definitley not right. does anyone know what is wrong?? i am a college student and dont have much money to put into fixing it and i am really worried so i was just wondering if anyone knew and could let me know what im getting into!

I have had the same problem with my 97 mazda 626 lx the solution was to get a transmition oil cooler and overhall my transmition. if you have had this problem for a long time you should overhall your tranny to repair any damage from the high heat your transmition is trying to protect its self from (blinking overdrive lockout) when in the higher overdrive speeds. I have not had a problem since and I am sure this was the problem because I had used car insurance and it hit my insurance company in the pocket for $2,100. my insurance company did not like this and sent their on specalist to make sure thay wernot getting jiped.
hope I was helpfull:) :)

Just a word of advice, get a good mechanic. my tranny blew for the first time at 100,000 miles about 2 years ago. I just got it back 2 weeks ago from getting it's THIRD transmission. thankfully the last two were still under warranty.

Take your car in to a mechanic - get your oil changed on the tranny along with filter.. Check the codes from the engine's cpu...
You are possibly getting into some deep trouble here..
