i just bought this car as a winter car and noticed today that there was some water in my trunk.. is this a common problem? any idea's where i should start looking to see where the problem is?

check the rubber strip around the trunk that seals it when its closed. their may be cracks in it, or it have been removed alltogether. grab some gloves and lift up the carpet. under the spare tire there should be a peice of metal that can be removed. thats the drain. use it to get the water thats alreadfy in the trunk out. if the problem persists i would recomend removing the trunk carpet and leaving the drain out so the water will not build up in the trunk and make your carpet modly.

Welcome to AF, most common areas are around the tailamps and rear body panel to tailamp and trunk gutter seams, get in there and have someone spray it down to determine the source of the leaks.

uh you mean get in the trunk, shut it and then have someone spray the car with a hose? hum....make sure you have a flashlight. and make sure your friends not a big jerk. i had my friend close the trunk on me when i was fixing wireing on my speakers and he dident let me out for like an hour.

The assumption here this would be done in a mature and reasonably cautious manner, this is standard body shop procedure for this type problem, there is no other way to do this properly.

lol yeah i wouldnt want to be shut in a trunk, but i took a look at the seal around the trunk and it looks fine... took out both taillights and neither one look like they are letting in water... i think the problem area is right below the trunk latch there is a seam where it looks like the water is coming in.. so i think next dry day i'll let it dry out real nicely and put some silicone on there... what do u think?

I have that problem too.:banghead: Everytime it rains I open the trunk to find everything moist. I removed the spare tire cover to find a good gallon of water in the well. I guess I should find the plug too. Jayno, have you had any water in the back floorboards yet???

I sealed up some things i thought might be causing the problem, the car hasnt moved for over a week now and somehow the water is still getting in, its a very minimal amount, but it adds up... i THINK it might be coming from the trunk lid where the "luggage rack" bolts to the lid.. any thoughts on that?

my first gen lumina doesent have a lugage rack but i assume theres some type of rubber seal that goes between the bolt and body. maybe one of those is leaking.

thats the only other place i can come up with that water could possibly be coming from... :confused:

I see no one has actually got in there to see what is happening, maybe another 10 guesses will solve it!
