I need to repair or replace the inner dash on a 94 Caprice?bigfonz80 09-12-2006, 08:58 PM I have a 1994 Caprice that i bought at an auction. The dash was destroyed by theives. The inner dash where the heater controls attach was demolished. I would like to repair it. Whats the best adhesive to use? If I replace it, what are the steps? any online illistrations? Blue Bowtie 09-13-2006, 12:41 AM If you are asking about the plastic support into which the vent outlets, heater controls, and radio are attached, replacing it is a fairly significant job. The support is glass reinforced ABS plastic, and glueing it may not produce satisfactory results. If you can fit the pieces together correctly (like a puzzle) you may have some success with epoxy, but will have to scuff the surfaces surrounding the breaks and apply a layer of epoxy over the cracks as additional reinforcement. I've tried to plastic weld GRP, and it is rarely as successful as with other plastics and urethanes. If sections are completely missing, you may be able to form some areas with polyester body filler (Bondo) but don't be surprised if the strength is less than the original material. Replacing the dash insert would involve nearly a complete disassembly of the dash from end to end, including the RH air bag, lowering the steering column, and removing the upper dash pad/cover. This is about halfway: http://72.19.213.157/files/94ColumnOut.jpg bigfonz80 09-13-2006, 08:31 AM ok cool. No peices are missing so i can use epoxy. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
