1996 blazer with no brakes! please helpbjrjr16 09-08-2006, 10:36 PM Hello, I have a brake question. I have a 1996 4 door 4x4 blazer and it had brakes when I first got it. I bought it with a blown engine, when I towed it to the garage to do the engine swap I had brakes almost all the way there. When I went to pull into the driveway I had absolutley no brakes and ended up hitting the back of the truck towing me. So we did the engine swap aswell as a newer trans and it started right up, While we still had it up on the stands we put it in drive and tried to see if it had brakes, It went right to the floor and didnt stop the wheels either. There is fluid in the res, and we tried bleeding the fronts. There was some air at first but now is solid fluid. The pedal just tries to get hard then goes right to the floor. There is brand new pads and shoes all the way around. The "brake" light is on, no abs light. What could be wrong with the brakes? And why did it suddenly have no brakes. Thanks in advance for the help, Brian BlazrLT36 09-09-2006, 12:22 PM hmmm, have you checked over your brake lines? maybe it forms a big bubble and stretches out the rubber close to the caliper. Or maybe its your calipers. You said your resevour stays full? a leak of some sort in the master cylinder. i dont kno...im just throwing out ideas. muddog321 09-09-2006, 01:35 PM If no air and no leaks the master cylinder is probably shot. Possible crap in the cylinder - again no leaks and system was purged of air starting with right rear. Replace the fluid in the resevior with new and bleed till clean flows. Definatly helped. new master cylinders for our trucks are close to $150. bjrjr16 09-10-2006, 09:20 PM Well guys we figured it out, It was the master cylinder. I must have blown it on the way while being towed. Thanks alot for your help, Brian vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
