View Full Version : i need to know before i blow 5 grand!! i need to know before i blow 5 grand!! TheLogikal1 08-27-2002, 10:44 PM what is the diffrence between the sr20de and the sr20det? (besides turbo) from what i know, -both are 16 valve -both are 4 cylinder -both at 1998cc ...so...would it be as good to boost an sr20de or just go all out throw out the wallet and get a jdm sr20det? would a turbo sr20de pass emissions easily? which has the most potential? if i got a t25 turbo (stock turbo for the sliva correct?) for an sr20de would they be identical engines? if i boosted an sr20de would i be able to call it an sr20det? help me. im lost and confused. i dont wanna throw away money cause im 16 and get paid minimum wage. Th*GgEd_OuTtTt 08-28-2002, 12:34 AM LOL... ... ... sr... 20-displacement d- dual over head cams - e... - e lol ... ... t- turbo... so yea if u added a turbo ... ur car would b an sr20det.. .. it's like sayin... ... if u get an sr20det... and use a different bigger turbo it's a sr20de turbo... ??? J SPEC SilEighty 08-28-2002, 01:27 AM I'm not 100% sure on this so don't quote me on it, but I believe the SR20DE and the SR20DET are the same block but have different internals. If they do have different internals then the SR20DET's internals are stronger. It would be better to get an engine that is made for a turbo already so that the internals are already up to par for the turbo. But like I said, all of what I just wrote may have been BS and the SR20DE's internals may be the same as the DET's. I think I just confused myself  But anyways, this is how I look at it. If your tight on money and on a budget for the swap, then how do you plan on maintaining the engine. The SR20DET is a performance engine and you shouldn't expect 100% running time, there will almost always be some downtime. Say that your driving to work some day and you snap a connecting rod or you experience detonation and you fry your pistons. Then your going to have to order new parts from japan, and that will get expensive FAST with the shipping costs. But I don't mean to stop you by any means from doing what you want. If you want the SR20DET then carry on and enjoy the power :) BTW, thugged out, the "E" in SR20DET stands for electronic fuel injection. Grendel 08-28-2002, 01:48 AM Originally posted by TheLogikal1 so if you take an sr20de from a 200sx and add turbo would that make it an sr20deT or just an sr20de turbo? Umm... correct me if i'm wrong, but the 200sx is a fwd right? 240sx is rwd... Fwd engines don't really fit in Rwd cars... I was looking at a site that sells sr20's to price them for when I buy my 240... they had fwd versions, and rwd versions... and said they were not interchangeable... -Grendel J SPEC SilEighty 08-28-2002, 01:57 AM Originally posted by Grendel Umm... correct me if i'm wrong, but the 200sx is a fwd right? 240sx is rwd... If he was talking about the 200sx here in the USA then no that will not work because like Grendel said, it's FWD. However the 200SX in Europe, Autstralia, etc..... had an SR20DE version and an SR20DET version and those will work in the 240sx NISSANSPDR 08-28-2002, 02:11 AM J Spec is correct...the internals are different...the SR20DE is 160HP in the NA version or the Silvia Q's. The SR20DE that comes in the 200SX here in the US only has 140HP tops in the SE-R model...so even there....differences are apparent. Grendel is also correct in noting that the engines must RWD or you can always stick a FWD engine the back of your car...hehehe....a la Porsche!
