Is there a tool for removing the spring in the door? Passenger and drivers side doors. Would Napa have this tool? Thanks.

You can do it without a tool if you have a long screwdriver (12-14 in) and a little muscle and maybe someone to guide it in. Or you can buy the tool and use it the one time your call.

How exactly does it work? Does it go directly through the center of the spring? Or by compressing the outside of the spring?

Get your spring started on one side stick the end of the screwdriver in about half way or toward the free end and pry it in/ like i said sometimes someone might have to tap it in with a hammer or push it in with another screwdriver while you pry

The safe thing to do would be to get the tool.
If you keep the truck for a while, youll use it more than once.
Going to be doing the door pins and bushings?

You should definately use the tool. Those springs are loaded with quite a bit of pressure and can easily pop free of any screwdriver or prybar and fly out and hurt you or anyone else in the area. :nono:
Even using the spring tool - which is really not that expensive - you should still wear eye protection or cover the area with a towel or something in case it should pop free.
Of course if you don't believe me, you can always ask One Eyed Pete, he swears by it - now...:naughty: :iceslolan

I'm glad to hear that everyone is alright. It sounds like the area I live in, deer all over the place, and they're all looking for a car to commit suicide with!!

good thing you guys came out of it ok. the same exact thing happened to me on holloween. a deer smashed the lower part of my driver side doors and then took a shit on the side of my truck. i was goin to replace the door but found out it would be 400 bucks for another door so i just hammered most of it out by hand. as a bonus, a friend of a friend found the deer the next day and made a bunch of jerky for me :naughty:. now i say deer are the real terrorists of America.

I am glad you and your loved one came out of the deer thing alright too and the thing with the spring is not such a big deal. I have ran a body shop for 25 years and only bought one of those tools about 10 years back. Sure wear safety glasses I just saying you don't have to run out and buy every tool there is. Improvise hooooraaahh!!!!
