1984 5.0 stalled upscoopy03 09-03-2006, 06:03 PM my neighbor's 5.0 is stalled up. the engine wont spin. we r trying to find out how can u get it to atleast get the oil through the engine. he heard that u take out the dist. and u put a drill in it to make the rod to turn. eggfarmer 09-03-2006, 06:49 PM Lets make sure it's not locked up first (before you brake the lobe inside).Pull all your plugs out and turn it over. While doing this you can also make sure you are getting a good blue spark. If it does'nt crank put a socket on the crank bolt/nut and try it that way(with the plugs out also). Gotta be safe!! scoopy03 09-03-2006, 07:50 PM he started to try that but didnt want to break the crank bolt. and the plugs are already out of it.... so i guess u can say it is locked up. eggfarmer 09-03-2006, 09:00 PM Now that does'nt sound good, next I would pull the vave covers and look for bent valve(s).Just by some weird quirk--the starter might also be jammed in the flywheel. scoopy03 09-04-2006, 03:44 PM there would be no bent valves..... its a rebuilt engine pretty much built from the ground up..... we got the oil through the engine and head and all though today and there is good oil pressure..... pushrod is new..... eggfarmer 09-04-2006, 04:08 PM so--- if you got oil pressure, then you got the motor to spin? scoopy03 09-06-2006, 12:19 AM no we had to use an extra dist we had found lying around and we took off the gear and the top cover and manually twisted it for awhile until we got the drill charged up and then it was really quick.... but when we twisted the top counterclockwise u could feel the oil pump resisting.... we tried again to put a socket on the crank bolt to turn over the engine and its there really extremely tight now.... we're going to have to take it apart i guess to see maybe it the crank it too torqued or something like that... oh about the starter it ISNT stuck in between the flywheel..... fyi : this info on how to do this was found in haynes repair manual for mustangs :) eggfarmer 09-06-2006, 10:33 PM sorry, did'nt mean to get ya all "cranky". i have the same book and then some others that I allways cross referance. But hey, I'm having my troubles also and the Haynes bool does'nt seem to cover it.
