96 4.3, how to remove torque converter from flywheel??Also brake ?'sbjrjr16 09-02-2006, 10:52 PM Hey guys, I am in the process of an engine swap. I am taking my bad engine out and everything is off and ready but the converter is still on the flywheel and I dont have enough clearence to take out the engine as the converter hits the fire wall. There is a little hole where I can possibly get at the bolts but its hard to get in there. Is there a special tool to take out the bolts using that hole? Also, A question about my brakes, When I was being towed to the location where I am doing the engine swap I had brakes all the way there except for when I needed them the most-that was when I hit the back of the truck that was towing me, There was no battery hooked up-is that why I had no brakes? Or what might have happened? There no leaks and fluid is all up to where it should be. Also how ofter do power steering pumps go bad? I can use my original(170k) or another(140k) Thanks for the help, Brian Blue Bowtie 09-02-2006, 11:29 PM Remove the starter. You can rotate the engine to access the TC bolts through the starter hole. Pay attention to the alignment lug when you reassemble the TC to the new flexplate. troy1 09-03-2006, 12:39 AM make sure you put a new front seal in the trans! Like blue bowtie said look for the oblong hole on the flexplate when putting the blots back in for the torque converter. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
