This is my first post here and I hope I'm not breaking any rules...

My dad owns a 2002 Mercury Villager that I have been trying to sell for a month. Its the standard POPULAR model. Cosmetically and mechanically, it is in excellent shape but we received only 2 calls in the whole month that our local newspaper (Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/)) than ran the classifieds ad.

Our sale price is $9400. It also comes with Premium Extended Warranty that is good until 10/2009 (Covers everything that manufacturer covered under original warranty). There is also a 12 CD changer installed.

Kelly Blue Book says it is worth $9200 (for good condition) and about $10,000 (for excellent condition). Ours is in between. Extended Warranty by itself should be worth about $800-$1000, and the CD changer should be worth at least $100-$150. Why is it that no one is interested in this van. Isn't $9400 a good price for this van? If I am not mistaken, this is simply a re-badged Nissan Quest and they are quite reliable (in comparison with others).

Is autotrader.com a better place to sell this van? Any other suggestions?

This should be in the classifieds section just to let you know. I think that autotrader is a good place, and personally, i think $9,000-$9,500 is a fair price, but if you really want to get rid of it, you might have to settle for less. good luck w/ the sell.

Forget about book value you have minivan. Although the vans are great they do not have a good following in resale. You would sell faster if you asked 5-7k
for it. I have a 2001 sport and the trade in value is 5400 and the dealers only want to give me 2300 for it.

I ended up selling it for $8900. Not bad huh! It was really tough, but I guess the fact that it was in excellent condition and that it had 3 years of additional warranty on it made a difference. All I have to say is, what a relief!

Lesson Learned: Don't buy a minivan and if you do, don't expect to resell it for anywhere close to KBB price.

You did better than most but it did take some patience imagine if you still had to make payments on it?

Most people no longer shop for vehicles in the newspaper. You need to place the ad in the www.autotrader.com

Good luck
