Hi, my 89 pulsar has had some idling troubles..it was idling high (1100) after a cold start, then later warm idlingwould wander from 600 to 900. It started running quite rough when idle+accelerating, with a distinct smell of unburnt gas. I took off the throttle body and cleaned that mess up, and checked the airfilter. Got it to run a bit better, but now has very low idle, at 5 or 600 or a high idle at 1600. what to do now..
thanks for any help

Need to find the Idle Air Control Valve(IACV) and clean it out. Known to suck dirt/oil into it and suck in too much air and the ECU tries to compensate... badly. Very common problem.

Is the AICV the black thing on the right side of the throttlebody??
thx for the reply

Yes, it is usually black and normally has a thin rubber pipe that goes to the wider rubber intake pipe which connects to the air filter.
